What the hell is Sangakkara doing in the Durham side?

He's their overseas player. Signed a deal to play 2 games for them ahead of the England series.

So we're preparing the opposition for the test series by lining up 4 day cricket in English conditions for one of their best batsmen, whilst sending Cook, Bell, Ali, Root and Ballance (at least 3 of which are likely to be in our test side) off to play Scotland in an ODI.

Doesn't strike me as the best of ideas from the new coach!

I don't know if the ECB are allowed to veto overseas player choices from Counties. It's nothing new.

Middlesex 57/4 v Warks, good start for Wright in particular, seems he's getting back to form after his long lay off with back stress fracture.

Middlesex got heavily criticised for signing Phil Hughes prior to the 2009 Ashes, and Hants were criticised last year for signing George Bailey ( as people thought he'd make the Ashes team ). Its nothing new.

And the ECB make the stupid rule that overseas must of played International Cricket within the last 2 years to be eligible or whatever the silly rule is and really force counties hands.

Middlesex 90/8 and looking at the flimsy batting line-up for Warks it could be another day when 16 or more wickets fall in a day. Which considering the conditions, would be astonishing.

They were 66/8 so 167 is a good recovery from the tail - that might just indicate that batting is not so tough and Warwickshire could put up a decent score

Yes, and in testing conditions too. It has to be said though that Durham didn't take advantage of the bowling conditions they must have been very surprised to have had presented to them when Yorkshire won the toss.
