Regarding Northeast. I'd be surprised if he's even playing professional cricket in a few years' time. Baffling as to how he's been made vice-captain, but that's Kent for you

Can Kent be blamed for his lack of development though? He was a hot talent, something, somewhere, went wrong

He was only made vice-captain to keep him at the club. He was going to leave so Kent decided to make him VC with the view of making him captain in the future. He's probably the only player of a right age in the squad - all others are too young or too old. I still think he's worth keeping - he's a good player and has shown that many times over the years but is obviously way too inconsistent which is why his average is probably 10 less than where it should be.

Williamson in for Yorks at three, so Root will be at four. Wonder if he now sees himself as a middle order bat.

Maybe the England selectors want him to bat in middle-order, that would be one explanation for Gayle leaving himself out as opposed to one of the top 3. Seems very early in the season for a captain to even consider dropping himself so there must be a reason other than lack of form.

He's joining the queue to jump into the slot vacated by KP, both Bell and Morgan have declared an interest.

Lancs 20-3 now.....

Joe Root may find himself with his county a bit longer than planned if he doesnt do something special before the Sri Lanka series... his performance in Australia makes him a huge doubt, and 0's arent going to help his cause

Finn taking two this morning also.... seems to play a lot better against real batsman as opposed to pretend ones.

April is once again providing tough conditions for batsmen and a great time for pace bowling. It makes it difficult to judge the merits of individual batsmen or indeed bowlers for test places as most tests are played in better conditions.

Win the toss and field, it just doesn't sound right does it?

Good to see Finn get two quality wickets too, he needed that.
