Out of the pacers used by England in this series, Bresnan has indeed bowled better than Broad who is England's best ODI bowler.Top wicket taker amongst both teams. So a improvement over his past series performance with the ball.He needed such performance after that infamous last over of his versus Australia where the match was lost.

Bresnan: 3 innings, 7 wickets, eco @5.32 and SR 20.2
Broad :3 innings,3 wickets,eco @ 5.13and SR 46
Ravi : 2 innings,2 wicket,eco @ 4.80 and SR 30

However, two wicket chances missed by him on field out of two chances offered to him.The 100 % drop ratio has to be improved. Can he reduce the drop ratio in the forthcoming T20 series :?:

I think he will continue to bowl well in the T20 series against WestIndies as it seems he is coming back in form.

I hadn't realised he was so expensive- that exposes his problems at the end of the innings as he often started economically.

In Australia, the Aussie batters targeted him in first spell iirc and were successful. It was perhaps the middle spell he did relatively well as compared to his first and last spells. In the final overs, they targeted him again, especially Faulkner in that 16 runs over.

Maybe,WI have a different plan against him and other English pacers, because Joe and the spinners have put tremendous pressure on WI with many early wickets. Here the England pacers have been given more than one breakthrough before they were introduced in the bowling attack. So not surprised if the first spells of all England bowlers are good than the next two spells in the matches of this series.

Not at all. It would be very unusual for bowlers who bowl in the batting power plays and at the "death" to have really good economy figures.

It is harsh to equate the missed run-out opportunity to a drop, as players fail to pick up the ball cleanly innumerable times. It is usually soon forgotten or not even noticed when there is no consequence.

There is nothing wrong with Bresnan's fielding other than it seeming to attract more criticism than other's. I doubt he (or many others) would have dropped the sitter that Broad did today and to describe him, as someone else has done, as the worst when Panesar is not in the field, is laughable, especially when Tredwell is in the team.

Batting at #8, he at least shows an awareness of the match situation at the crease, unlike a recent #7 and a current #9. Most criticism of his bowling is rather lazily, or ignorantly, based only upon statistics, but students of the game know that there is far more to bowling than just returning good figures, particularly when to do so may be down mostly to good fortune.

My assessment of Bresnan was across all formats of the game - I think it was fair, reasonable and unbiased.

I also have a 'favourite' player - Ian Bell - but I'm also one of his biggest critics when I think is justified, which is not uncommon.

A less one-eyed approach to Bresnan and acceptance of some of his faults wouldn't go amiss from some quarters.

It was a fair assessment KJ.

It might have been worth trying Jordan at the end of the innings rather than Bresnan. Results over a long period suggest Broad and Bresnan are not good at the end. It might have been worth trying an alternative.

We'd have found ourselves in even greater trouble than that following the "unnatural" deterioration of the ball, had we done so. Jordan was on the field as a substitute for Root.

I'd partially agree with the comment about bowling at the end. Broad, when he does bowl at the end (and now he's captain, this may not be so often), is not very good. Bresnan usually does an adequate job. It is very difficult for any bowler to do a consistently good job. Examples are few and far between. After Malinga, I'm beginning to struggle.

Steve Waugh was good at it. Maybe a bowler who can the pace off?

Just providing a counterbalance to some of the ill informed and even more "one eyed" criticism (see above) of Bresnan, KJ.

Of course, he's no world beater, but he has an array of talents that, providing he stays fit, will demand his selection in all forms of the game.

I think the game has changed, even since Waugh's time, DR. I'm not sure he wouldn't be taken to the cleaners as well now.

I like living in the past. gets me through life :thumb

I see Root was opening the bowling though. Something Martin Crowe used in the 92 world cup.

The point about Bresnan, in a nutshell, is that his bowling is as good as, or better than, most of his rival's, but his batting is much better.

Injury free and in form, why would he not be picked?

I think Bresnans ODI and T20 place is relatively more safer as the selectors seem to prefer him over Jordan, maybe due to experience factor as well as .Have the selectors dropped Bresnan from ODI's and T20's post injury :?: I doubt.

However, the selectors do not seem to have much faith him in test format and hence they have dropped him at least twice post injury.Selectors dropped him once in India and once on tour of Australia.I don't know if he was dropped more than twice post injury.Having said that ,the bowlers on bench are not as promising so he is likely to make a comeback now and then.

Bresnan becomes a scapegoat when not doing well because he is not a fashionable player who can win a game of cricket on his own.

Two things that tend to get overlooked; Bresnan's application is better than most England players and he provides fantastic support for his team-mates with both bat and ball, something that never is shown in the statistics column.
"Stats are there to be broken" Dominic Cork
"They took all our players away, banned our captain and we still came away with a ten-wicket victory" Jason Gillespie
"You won't get anywhere slouching about half out of bed" Geoffrey Boycott
