The whole bluster from the ECB has been hollow from the start.
England players in IPL auction: Ian Bell (Warks), Ravi Bopara (Essex), Jade Dernbach (Surrey), Alex Hales (Notts), Craig Kieswetter (Somerset), Azhar Mahmood, Dimitri Mascarenhas, Eoin Morgan (Middx), Samit Patel (Notts), Kevin Pietersen (Surrey), Luke Wright (Sussex)
Only one serious test contender there and Bell has the same agent as Pietersen. Perhaps he didn't have the nous not to go along with it.
There has been no bluster at all. On this, the ECB seem to be serious.

Over the years England's test players have tried to get into the IPL even Bresnan back in 2010. What has saved the ECB is quite simple, the IPL doesn't really care for English players, because they are not good enough at the format, are not marketable and will miss a large chunk of the season.

or maybe the English players don't really care for IPL because test cricket is the pinnancle of the game and winning the County Championship is of a higher achievement.

Playing in Delhi in front of 1,000's of passionate fans, or playing on a damp April in front of 10 asleep OAP's who only came to get away from their wife? I would be pretty sure that no English player who had a guaranteed contract in the IPL would pick county cricket over IPL. The only people are those who are in, or have chance of a test spot, and those deluded enough, like Morgan, to believe they do.
Truth is the CC is rubbish now.

Alviro Patterson wrote: If that was the case then Jos Buttler would be content at Somerset as deputy wicketkeeper to Craig Keiswetter and ask his bosses if he could play some IPL cricket to pass the time, not move to Lancashire in order to improve his England chances.
Steven Davies could go down the IPL path if he wanted to, but he hasn't given up hope of an England return. Ryan Sidebottom's death over specialism would be of great interest with the IPL and who would blame him if he fancied earning some big money before retiring.

Well just to give more information on that......
Alistair Cook has tried more than once and was even listed in 2012 as the highest uncapped player, but has so far failed to attract one IPL bid.
Jonathan Trott has entered 3-4 times, never attracted a bid.
Ian Bell has tried 3-4 times, and was like Cook, turned down every time even though in 2012 he was ranked as joint second in terms of potential value in the auction.
Matt Prior has tried 3 times.... no bids.
Samit Patel has entered on numerous occasions.
Carberry said last summer on scoring his 1st 100 that he hoped people in India noticed because he was desperate for a chance in IPL
KP has obviously played before.
Graham Swann was the highest price tagged spinner in 2011 but failed to attract anyone for 400k..... Chawla went for nearly three times that much.
James Anderson tried about 3 times and never attracted a bid.
Stuart Broad has played many times in the IPL.
Tim Bresnan tried 2-3 times by memory, never attracted a bid.
Chris Tremlett has entered twice..no bids
Monty Panesar entered in 2011 or 2012... no bids.
Thats basically an England team that have played in the same test match in the last 1-2 years, so to say no one wants to play is pretty ridiculous....
And Just for you Yorks boys.....
Rashid, Sidebottom, Gale, Lyth, McGrath, Shehzad,Plunkett, Bresnan and Jacques Rudolph have all deemed playing in the IPL and missing the start of the county season more important than playing County Cricket, as they all put themselves forward at various times to no success while contracted to Yorkshire.
Maybe if Stokes, Bairstow and Root had more than 7 x 50's between them in nearly 150 T20 matches they may have gone for it too.... (Stokes only has 13 wickets in 41 matches/ Root has taken only 7, so not much hope being classed as an allrounder)......

The point is he was signed, and more than once.
