Sreesanth's belongings seized - Mumbai Police

http://www.espncricinfo.com/indian-prem ... 36607.html

Mumbai Police has seized "what appear to be" the belongings of Sreesanth and Jiju Janardhan - both arrested by Delhi Police on spot-fixing allegations - from hotel rooms booked in their names at a five-star hotel in Mumbai. The police has received legal permission to take mirror images of the laptop and also CCTV footage from the hotel to further investigate into the whole scandal.

Cases have been registered under the Gambling Act and Indian Penal Code sections that pertain to cheating and forgery. All charges are non-bailable, Roy said.

After a long time Srini mama said something that i wished . I am now more hopeful that the ruling i expect will come soon, maybe tomorrow itself :clap :joydance

BCCI could press charges against tainted trio - Srinivasan :clap

N Srinivasan, the BCCI president, has said that "no punishment is too little" for the cricketers involved in the spot-fixing scandal. If Sreesanth, Ajit Chandila and Ankeet Chavan are proven guilty, the board will press legal charges if allowed, Srinivasan told Indian news channel CNN-IBN. Asked if deterrent steps like sending culprits to jail were necessary, Srinivasan said he had "no hesitation in saying yes".

Srinivasan said it was not the IPL that had let its fans down. Instead, he said, it was "these dirty cricketers". He stressed that the IPL was not corrupt as a whole

"All I am saying is, I acknowledge the fact that three crickets have done this

Srinivasan's focus on just the three cricketers was in contrast with his earlier statements about natural justice taking its course. "Everybody has seen there was some evidence shown on TV," he had said. "Police have made their statements. All I am saying is, in this country you have to be assumed innocent until guilty. That still stands.

BCCI unlikely to impose life ban during meeting.

http://www.espncricinfo.com/indian-prem ... 36665.html

While some may perceive it as inaction, the working committee's decision is influenced by a constitutional clause. According to the board's constitution, a life ban cannot be imposed on a cricketer, who breaches the players' code, for 30 days after an internal inquiry committee is constituted. "Taking that into account, it would be unjust to ban the players for life before the formal and internal investigations are completed," a BCCI functionary told ESPNcricinfo, preferring anonymity. "That doesn't mean the BCCI is taking the matter lightly. Immediately after Delhi Police arrested these cricketers, the Board suspended all of them pending inquiry."

=====================================
So they remain suspended. They will consider it after 30 days of internal inquiry. But good to see the Board is tackling it well.Given the severity of cases filed against him, he is going to be aged by the time ruling is given in all cases, because the police have enough evidence and to defend or prove those it is going to take years.By that time he will be unfit for playing cricket as he is already 30. I bet the others too wont make Ranji squads .They have lost cricket as career option.Wont see them playing for India,no chance.I bet.

President of the BCCI Narayanaswami Srinivasan has suggested legalised betting will help to stamp out illegal betting in India, seems sensible enough to me. As an aside; wasn't his company charged for money laundering fairly recently?

Having read through the comments on Crapinfo there seems to be a majority of people who don't seem to grasp the idea that if you legalise something you reduce the power of the criminal ellement.

Good news that they franchisee has finally taken legal action against them as well. Now hope the BCCI will also file one soon once internal inquiry happens for 30 days as per their constitution.

Royals suspends contracts of trio
http://www.espncricinfo.com/indian-prem ... 36950.html

"Based on the information provided by the authorities, the contracts of all three players have been suspended pending enquiry," Royals said in a press release. "We have already filed a complaint with the Delhi Police against all three players earlier today."

You reduce the power of the criminal element, but introduce a much more widespread social problem.

Gambling in Europe is becoming a large social plague because, unlike other vices such as cigarettes, the palpable damage is not as easily foreseen. I can understand why a country would make it illegal, it has the capacity to destroy peoples lives....its leaves you with a very delicate balance... save the status of IPL at the cost of potential widespread poverty in society? Does seem like a little bit of a silly argument even though generally I agree that a lot of this gangster culture that comes from illegal betting could be stamped out with making it legal(I would say the same about legalising drugs also)...

No names there but it's not hard to guess who that is talking about...and if it's true it could have big implications for the BCCI especially, if the police get more information.

I am not surprised at all regarding the owners relatives being suspected nor by the Pak umpire news. I had both these fears since last year of IPL . But i did not expect the franchisee that is under suspect, i expected two other franchisees to be suspected for this.
