Racism in English football?

[quote="sussexpob"]The question in Terry's case was not "is calling this man a ***** ****" a crime, and the court deciding not.... they could not prove that the words were said having consider in depth the available evidence. Therefore the FA would have to contradict a material fact made by a professional legal judge to say that they could actually prove that John Terry said those words, or have watered down the required evidence to the point that they are literally just charging him despite a legal precedent in place because Anton Ferdinand said so.

quote]

That is absolutely 100% wrong as is the rest of your post as a result. Terry admitted he said the words- the question for the court was whether they were intended to be abusive or insulting.

And the court didnt find no evidence of any wrong doing either.

Rich is 100% right - different rules of evidence and diferent witnesses will be used by the FA. This isnt over yet

vaguely intersting that Terry got off because the magistrates court felt that it couldnt be proved he intended to be offensive - but in the Suarez case the FA held that intent was irerlevant.

Going by the reports I have read in the Torygraph / BBC he hasn't actually been charged with racism but instead "with using abusive and/or insulting words and/or behaviour" which "included a reference to the ethnic origin and/or colour and/or race of Ferdinand"

Subtle but important difference, the FA could not have made a racism charge stick after he'd been cleared in a Court of Law even with the differing standards of proof required.

The odd thing is he denies the the charge of using abusive or offensive language yet he admitted using the offensive words in his court case. He's requested a personal hearing but he's pushed himself into this corner.

If I remember rightly didn't he say during the court case that he was merely repeating the words he thought he'd heard said to him?

Either way, quite how the FA are going to hang a charge on Terry when during the court case it was shown that niether side could prove what was actually said is a tad perplexing to say the least.

Would have been better in my view if they'd just let the dog lie.

The FA have to charge him purely because they charged Suarez.

As I said above, he lacks a brain to use twitter.

Should probably be a less severe ban/charge to Suarez/Terry though.

Probably wont get a ban, £2,500 fine or something insignificant like that.

Personally I think John Terry should be found guilty just for being John Terry, that's crime enough.
Work expands to fill the time available, so why do today what can be put off until tomorrow.
