He was paid to get a result rather than a specified result.

Such a shame, Cronje should have been one of the truly iconic players the game has produced, and absolutely fabulous player when in form and an exceptional leader.

The WIs test was the 100th at Lords. I have it on video somewhere in the house.

I don't suppose he ever had any difficulty getting the best of everything due to the old school tie network. Colin played many, many years after his sell-by date, Chris was at best average despite all his advantages. Maybe this chap will get somewhere on his own merits. Only time will tell.

He's a good all-rounder but i suppose he will be under quite a bit of pressure to perform considering how good Colin and Chris were.

Are we talking about the same Chris?

He was obviously good enough if he played Test & ODI cricket for England and scored over 12000 first class runs.

I'm still yet to find one valid reason for his brief spell as England captain though.

Chris was a fair but not great county player, but then again he should have been as he would have had all the advantages as a youth and young man that being a Cowdrey would have given him. Was hopeless as an England player, and would almost certainly never have even been considered other than because of his name.

As far a Colin was concerned, his England career was (should have been) coming to an end when I started watching cricket in the late 1960s, yet unbelievably he kept getting picked until as late as 1975.

He was going to be anyway as Durham had signed him for their T20 campaign. There are a lot of happy Durham fans at this news.

I used to get excited at the news of new overseas players coming to Lancashire but fail to do so any more, when they barely stay for more than a few weeks. Unfortunately long gone are the days of Clive Lloyd and Wasim Akram who were with the county around 25 years between them.

Yeah, you could normally identify an over seas star with a particular county such as V Richards, Marshall and Hadlee.
