Runs scored against the WI between 1976 and 1995. Quite apart from the heroic amounts of runs scored by Border, Gooch and Gavaskar, there are a number of Asian batters prominent. Suggesting possibly that problems with fast bowlers are quite recent in origin.

Runs scored against the great Australian teams of 1990 and 2007 shows the preeminence of Tendulkar and Lara in the era, and perhaps reflects their ongoing troubles cracking India.

Top five to play for England against Australia:

Gooch
Vaughan
Gower
Pietersen
Thorpe.

All 45ish or above.

Next in line.... Mark Ramprakash...

Anticipated no response so stuck it on this thread of death.

England team to play West Indies.

Gooch
Boycott
Stewart
Lamb
Thorpe
Smith.

All averaging 35ish and above.

Next in line... Graeme Hick...

Hasty conclusions. Gooch was a hell of a player. England enigmas didn't fail as badly against the greats as much as you'd expect. And the West Indies were scarier than Australia. Attackwise.

And Pakistan and India produced a lot of great batters throughout this period!

What's more interesting about that IMO is this...

Oops, extra batter v WI. Lamb shouldn't be in. Though I'd argue that the WI were more threatening when he played, rather than Thorpe. Though they were pretty nasty when Thorpe played. Until 95 anyway.

The Zimbabwe-South Africa matches in June may not be televised as ZC can't afford it.

What i noticed though is that the tour consists of 5 Twenty20's and they are all played in consecutive days (from the 20th to the 24th)! They won't count as international matches though as they aren't on the FTP and they are only playing each other to practice for the World T20 so they are defined as 'practice matches'.

Great news for New Zealand...

"Neil Wagner, the South Africa-born fast bowler, is now eligible to play for New Zealand, the ICC has confirmed. Wagner had moved to New Zealand in 2008 and his inclusion in the New Zealand team has been highly anticipated, following two prolific seasons on the domestic circuit."

Politics? the High Court has supposedly blocked them from going...

I think the BCB are trying to throw some weight around as they have deferred a tour to Zimbabwe by eight months or something like that.
