So you've convicted them all on hearsay evidence and ignore mitigation, SP? Let's hope you're not a judge or magistrate...

Amir is a cheat - dress it up what way you want - he knew EXACTLY what he was doing and what he did was illegal

If it was up to me, they'd be in prison

obviously I mean if it is correct and they are guilty..but I find it hard to see how they are innocent

Still Prison seems a bit extreme. At least in my opinion.

Anyway am out of here, need a nice glass of red wine! Good evening to everyone!

Really? I wonder if all those people who lost money on spread betting, worth up to 500mill per match according to some figures, would agree with the fact it would be harsh. Its not only cricketing integrity that has lost here, people have lost money too.

200 hours of suspended community service and a commitment to give talks at schools about the perils of getting in with the wrong crowd?

Im going to play Devils Advocate here, DA, cause to be honest I really dont know where I stand yet. I find myself caught between a moral argument, a legal argument, technicalities and protectionism of the game.

With regards to mitigation, why should we mitigate for Amir circumstance? What made him vunerable inside the team unit, that made him susceptable to take up such an agreement?

Age is an assumed vunerability, but at 18 he is an adult and knows what he is doing is both morally and legally wrong. You can not escape that!

As for Undue influences on him, he is the star of this team. The management would have no chips to play on his selection, Butt's position as Captain is shaky and would hold no sway over Amir's potential, and Asif position in the team is hardly rock solid... in fact, Botham on commentary while this was happening made a comment about Asif being the joker/character/nice person in the dressing room, so the chances that he held a violent influence over his understudy does seem likely.

Out of all three, Amir's career was the most solid, his position in Pakistan's future most infalliable.... so is there really mitigation likely?

I do believe everyone is losing the point.... the real mitigation is his talent.

Well, I know where I stand - completely open-minded. No-one's been charged with anything, there's been no trial, the inquiries are not even complete, all we have is hearsay and we won't know what may be offered as mitigation unless or until a guilty verdict is reached. In other words, we know nothing.

You may have noticed that DA, as well as standing for my username, also stand for devil's advocate... ;)

I wouldnt get too exercised about punishments folks. 24 hours on and I am even more convinced that the PCB will fight this out to the bitter end and get its players exonerated. Establishining innocence/guilt won't even come into it. Expect an ICC cover up.

Butt, Asif and Amir have now been charged by the ICC, and suspended pending a decision.

Icc have charged them with several offences and it scotland yard want to question them further...It seems that they are in a lot of trouble now...establishing someones innonce can take some time but is often a quick process....but establishing guilt takes much longer and the longer this drags on for i get the feeling that they are more and more guilty.

As for prison sentences...dont make me laugh, fraud has been committed but to suggest that what they did should lead to a jail term is totally over board, life bans is punishment enough dont force the tax payer to put up 3 lads who have been silly and made a mistake but havent caused any major harm to the public? Loss of earnings and bets, i dare suggest that any reputable bookmaker should refund all bets from that test and any bet is a risk in itself.
