Also don't even get me started on the Kolpack rules.
I hate it when Bumble goes on about how Faf du plesis is a disgrace for breaking his contract, the disgrace party here is Lancashire for forcing someone to turn their back on their country.
Firstly, no one forced Faf to turn his back on his country, he chose to sign up as a Kolpak.
Players like Ervine and Patel aren't jetting off for a couple of weeks and a fat pay check, they're playing full seasons as a county cricketer. When Patel turned down the offer to tour the West Indies he was faced with a simple choice: Stay and play for a team that took him in, has him down as a first choice selection and will guarantee him a wage. OR. Go as part of a squad with no guarantee of even playing and no guarantee of ever being picked again. Patel isn't going to get a contract from New Zealand so he'd be on living expenses and potentially a match fee. It's a no brainer.
English counties want above all else players who can commit to play a full season. Patel has far stronger links to Warwickshire than he does to the New Zealand national side, who frankly did not give him a second thought when they dropped him and gave him less than 20 tests across five years.
Anyone who can't see that, frankly doesn't have a leg to stand on.
