Bell's record is not so bad when you look at some of the star names behind him on that list.

You have the one about the inspiration way he gave 135 runs away with the ball, then got out pathetically twice?

I don't think it's Stokes whose pathetic.

Cook's record is far better in Australia and India, worse in England. He's one of those bats that does better away from home.

I really don't see how people can you use that to say he had a good career.

to be selected for 100 test matches you have to be consistent over a very long period of time

im pretty sure there has never been a bad player who has played 100 tests

I suspect their are load of 80-100 test match players that are pretty average test players.

Ishant Sharma could probably reach and be india highest seam wicket taker but he will never be close to being the best india seam bowler ever, Considering he not really that skill full or good, the only thing going for him is his height, Fitness and Accuracy for an indian bowler.

Sussexpop kind of name two players although I do kind of rate Atherton but know other think he is overrated over few special innings.

top of my head Nasser Hussain and most of England 90s players were average.

Amount of games Bell played shouldn't matter.
the fact is Bell fails away from home, Hardly scores any meaningful runs and fails when england need him most.

yeah although for him opening abroad is so much easier than opening in England.
Really good player though.

he join these players with better away record than home.
Don Bradman
Ken Barrington
Wally Hammond
Jack Hobbs
Ab De villers
Amla
Alan border
Graeme Smith
Ted Dextor
Sunil Gavaskar
Mohinder Amarnarth
Neil Harvey
Dennis Ammis
plus many more.

Out of those the special one probably amarnath average 50 away but career average 42 must have really struggled at home.
guessing Cook will be like him.
Cook should really be averaging 50 with his stats but bad home record lowers it, the opposite of clarke where he should really average around 42-43 but a really really good home record pushed him close to 50.

A lot of England bats made their reputations from 2009-2011. They're all different players now, with different limitations.

Maybe you can explain how your ideas of judging one opinion as more "knowledgeable" and "better qualified" works? Are they rated on test runs or wickets? Should we assume that, rather than talking absolute dribble for days on end, Shane Warne is actually operating on a higher plane of understanding then us mere mortals because his opinion comes with 700 test wickets?

I think his record speaks for itself. A good player in comfortable conditions, a pretty average one at other times,.

I'd prefer to discuss than argue -if questioning the term "pathetic" when used to describing a prodigious talent causes offence then I assure you it was unintended. Obviously you know the meaning of words "qualified" and " knowledgeable". Warne' s 700 test wickets certainly makes him more qualified than me to talk about leg spinning.
