:stupid
considering Jadeja scoring fifties, Saha scoring centuries, Ashwin scoring centuries.

Saha averages 63 this year
Ashwin averages 43 this year.
Jadeja averages 37 this year.

Yeah the tail looks sub standard this year.

Is Mishra's poor return an indication of how Rashid will fare?

England all out for 537.
India need 337 to avoid the follow on.
think india will take that could have been so so much worse, although they need to bat well now.

TBH think most of the english bowling might struggle if the ball doesn't reverse.
Not sure Ali, Ansari or Rashid will get much help yet.
Broad, Stokes, Woakes would have to do the bulk of the bowling and it has to be seen if they can do it in india.
be interesting to see how cook uses his bowlers does he bowl more of the spinner till the ball reverses and then uses Stokes and broad plus will woakes bowl much since his spot will be under pressure from Anderson.
probably a bowl off between Woakes, Ansari and Rashid.

Woakes will have to bowl better though than he did in Bangladesh.

It would seem likely, not sure spin will be a great success for England but Moeen does seem to find ways of taking wickets. Ansari's SLA spin against their right handers might be the best. Rahid I think bowled better in Bangladesh than Misra has here.
Work expands to fill the time available, so why do today what can be put off until tomorrow.

Geez, India do have a long tail, though. Ashwin is a viable allrounder, but with him coming in at six, the Indian lower order is definitely vulnerable.

Bairstow's out. Good innings - England have scored over 120 this session for two wickets.

are you seriously dopey literally no different to england .

Ok, that's uncalled for. I get that you're testy because you've been gleefully telling us for months how the England batting line-up is going to fall in a heap in India, and it hasn't happened, but no need for personal attacks. And gee, what's with the defensiveness? I read about 20 posts on this topic proclaiming angrily that I'm wrong.

For the record, comparing test batting averages:

6: Stokes 35.1, 4 hundreds Ashwin 33.5, 4 hundreds
7: Bairstow 40.9, 3 hundreds, Saha 31.09, 1 hundred
8: Woakes 32.8, Jadeja 24,
9: Rashid 20.77 Mishra 22.34
10: Ansari 15 Shami 11.6
11: Broad 21.7, 1 hundred Yadav 8.56

So England win every position but 9, and that by two runs. 4 more hundreds. Total difference in average: 31 runs to England. So yes, literally no different.

For a number 6 that's on the low side. Stokes averages 57 this year.

You seem to be missing the point, Never said india got a better tail than england, just got an issue with you saying india got a weak tail when they haven't.

was trying to make the point india batting Ashwin at 6 is no different to Ali or Stokes batting in the top 6 and england playing 6 bowlers.
how one can be seen to have a strong lower order and india not is a bit odd.

Apology accepted.

I think we can both agree that India do have a damn good top 5, especially in home conditions. It's going to be an uphill struggle for England to get those wickets.
