Absolutely nothing wrong with that Oval pitch, just an absolute catastrophe of poor batting. Surrey's first five batsman got out unable to block a ball properly, then Pope got out playing to a ball about 2 meters outside his offstump he should have left. Lyth did pretty much exactly the same, Bairstow and Wharton missed gun barrel straight balls on their stumps, Revis unfathomably played a half-volley on the back foot and steered it in the air behind the wicket....
I guess I can sum up the whole effort in the 10 odd balls Thomas batted for Surrey. The ball before he got out, he walked down the wicket head all over the place, missed the ball, could have been out. So next ball instead of walking down, he took his stance down the wicket and hopped backwards, head all over the place... guess what, he missed the ball again.
This is a lad that is supposed to be a hot prospect. If this is the best academy players we have coming through, then god help the sport is all I can say.
