Lancs picked up a 'below average' pitch rating for their game v Middlesex

This means they lose all the points they gained, but it seems there are other penalties that can be applied as they lost the game and only had 3 points to lose. They can lose up to a further 8 points.

Lancs have appealed the rating. To avoid the further deductions, they must be able to 'show that the pitch was not a substandard pitch and/or that they sought, acting reasonably, to prepare the best quality pitch that they could'

Lancs were one of the favourites to go up ahead of the new season, but with a poor start and a chance of points deductions, they may well have dropped out of the running

All the other counties will be baking their pitches hard and rolling the life out of them for the remaining games of the season, just in case

after 20 injury replacements (other than for concussion) and a whole host of iffy replacements, strange replacement refusals and hundreds of miles of Uber journeys ferrying players around the country from hundreds of miles away, the ECB have stepped in, with cat like speed and skill, and arranged a meeting of the trial review committee for a weeks time after the June block of matches have already begun

Any changes or recommendations they make will have to wait until the final block of 6 matches in late August
