Draw for the CL has been made

Newcastle get Barcelona.... tough gig!

There seems to be a big discrepancy in the two halves of the draw. One side is full of big beasts... PSG, Chelsea, Madrid, Liverpool, Bayern, Man C plus Galatasary and Atalanta. The other side features Arsenal and Barcelona plus Newcastle, Sporting Lisbon, Bodo/Glimt, Bayer Loserkusen, Athletico and Spurs.

If Newcastle can find a way to prevail over Barca (feels unlikely) then they are definitely in the better half of the draw.

Apologies I misread the draw and thought arsenal had Bayern...but to be fair I think it's probably likely to be the final yes

Tottenham are an utter calamity at the moment. The first and third goal were clown stuff, and I am not sure I have ever seen a goalie taken off after 20 minutes for tactical reasons.

6 PL teams might have made it through to the last 16 of the UCL, but not one of them is taking a lead with them into the second leg

Newcastle and Arsenal go into next week level on goals and Liverpool take a 1 goal deficit to Anfield, but it looks pretty calamitous for Man C, Spurs and Chelsea who all now need to win at home by a margin of 4 goals.

Now, as anyone who knows me will understand, I couldn't give a tinkery toss about any of them apart from Newcastle, but the EPL is well in the lead in the race for an extra UCL spot next season and it's entirely possible that a 4 team wipe out next week will seriously harm that, especially given that 3rd placed Spain have teams in good positions to progress and close that gap right down

It's almost like PL teams facing walls of defenders week in week out didn't know what to do when faced with teams willing to go toe to toe with them. City were suicidally open, Tottenham were too, and the Chelsea v PSG by the highlights could have ended 17 all, both teams threw everything forward.
