One needs to be mentally and physcially fit to play for whole day under the sun. From what I understand, one cannot perform with a dehydrated body the very next day, lack of sleep due to wasting sleeping time drinking till late night which reduces muscle recovery time for those into sport and fitness, headache and / or hangover symptoms. Is the lifestyle of elite sportsmen in middle of tours or days before upcoming tours such far away from following basic science and knowledge about the body and its maintenance in context of sport and fitness. What are the coaches doing, who is there to ensure discipline within team, set simple Do's and Dont's. Winning a test series against the side which were runner's up in WTC (Australia) at their home is tough and even a draw and loss after a fightback is understandable. The first two tests lost by 8 wickets each and the third by 82 runs. There is not enough contest and the win margins show it. But not having basic common sense and simple Do's and Dont's is very ridiculous. These players are young and if you allow them to drink in middle of tour they will go out drinking at the very next moment the sun sets. There is so much off-time in entire life to drink, but they choose middle of a test tour and worse even day before the test
However, ECB head, Selection committee, Head Coach etc should ensure what is acceptable and what is not as these things are their part of the job. They need to be held accountable.Players who repeatedly do something which leads to massive degradation in their performances should not be selected. Have some Do's and Don'ts which management has apparently not done. One dimensional Bazball is the next that should be looked at.
