I used to appreciate the strategy when at the start of an Ashes tour the hosts would put out a PMXI with a handful of retired greats, plus teenage farmboys destined to be superstars, and they would thrash the tourists. I'd like to see Anderson and Broad get a runout against the Aussies next home series.

Lillee played all the way to the millennium in those annual games. His last ever game made the evening news in England, because him and his son tore a Pakistan touring team a new one sometime around 2000 (before Gilchrist and Langer's Hobart heroics).

Sadly, we might have to take these figures with a pinch of salt though. Pakistan's captain was banned for life not long after this game for match-fixing, and the previous tournament at the WC at least the Bangladesh game was found to be fixed. A bet on a 50 year old return 8 runs in 8 overs with 3 wickets may have made someone a lot of money......
