There was no Isak for Newcastle, which is worrying because if he's injured, the whole season gets derailed instantly

As soon as I saw the draw for this round I wasn't at all hopeful. For some reason Newcastle have a terrible record against Brighton going back to the days when Brighton were a lower league club beating them in the cup. They are just one of those bogey teams

and then to cap it all, Gordon gets sent off and is now suspended for the league cup final

I recorded the match to watch later, but I won't bother now.

I've now seen a clip of the Gordon red card and it was just complete stupidity. How can you lose your blob like that 2 weeks before a cup final?

Was one of those games where both teams at 1-1 threw a lot into it, and the game became increasingly ill-tempered throughout, with a few big tackles flying about.

Gordon was on the receiving end of a few, and I guess he just lost his cool eventually.

Oh, deep joy..... not only do Newcastle go into the cup final with no Gordon, they now have no Lewis Hall either, having been ruled out for the rest of the season with a foot injury sustained against Liverpool a week ago. I think he was about the only Newcastle player to come out of that game with any credit

last night was just what the Geordie doctor ordered.... a gruelling, energy sapping encounter for Liverpool against a team that played them off the park, but which miraculously saw Liverpool scrape a win to keep all their energies concentrated on the return encounter. There will be no resting of players on Tuesday. PSG will have been wishing they had the ref and the VAR from 2 years ago when they scraped a draw against Newcastle, rather than the one which disallowed a goal by a heel and ignored the big fat penalty shout

lets hope PSG can work them hard again next week, with lots of extra time and penalties............ and maybe chop Salah's legs out from underneath him
