241 to chase. No swing on offer, no spin and anyways the lone specialist spinner Abrar does not turns it. The only thing is low bounce but that has not been an issue in Pakitan batting innings a well. Batsmen can hit across the line if field is packed on off side. Jaddu is batting at 8 is a long enough batting order. Virat is good at chasing although things have changed over the years. Shaheen is not the bowler he was few year back. Haris will leak runs hopefully. Not a specatular bowling lineup at all . India should win this.

Shaheen bowled Rohit for 20.

This could get interesting.

backfootpunch wrote:The combination of the creation of the hundred. Meaning the domestic 50 over competition is now a reserves competition. How can we possibly expect the younger players like jamie smith, harry brook, jacob bethell, gus Atkinson etc to possibly do well in a format they haven't played at all in county cricket

The main problem this creates is that the 50 over Cup may as well not exist in the mind of selectors, so we are judging the quality of the 50 over team once again on other formats, and not the evidence that comes from the small samples of 50 over cricket played. As an example, over a 25 game sample Bethall averages 25 at 87SR....Andersson at Middlesex averages 51 at 110SR with one extra game.

Why is Bethall in the team then and Andersson not even mentioned? Well Andersson has a terrible T20 record, and that is what they are judging it on. Jordon Cox got 3 games in the side and averages 15 at 67SR, he should be nowhere near the side but guess what... good FC record, good T20 record. Banton had done nothing before his debut, but yeah... was seen as a big T20 hitter.... Its the same with all of them really. At the end of the day we have picked 3-4 batsman in the last few weeks who are at least 20 runs and approx 25SR behind another player who gets no mention of being picked, over similar spans of games.

The very least you can do is make good judgements on the small sample sizes you have. England are not doing that.

To put Carse's performances into perspective, he currently stands at number 2 on the all time list for worst bowling economy in ODI history, and is number 1 for players from test playing nations. We can fault CC, the 100 and whatever we want, but if we come into a major tournament with a guy putting up all time worst levels of performances over a 20 game period, we can't be surprised when that guy gets flogged around. I guess we can say the same of Archer. Picking Archer at this point is based on really nothing. He's hardly bowled a ball in 4-5 years.... Wood is in a period of horrendous form and never been fit.

I don't think it took a genius to look at this attack and think it would go badly in unfriendly conditions - maybe take one as a wildcard, but all three together bowling in a game? You really think that would end well?

Maybe doing well vs second string county attacks doesn't mean anything, but at least it adds mystery. There is a certainty to the level of failure picking this lot to bowl again and again.

Coming in somewhat late with a comment on the Eng/Aus match.

Great job by England to get 350, but also a good job by Smith and the bowlers - including Labushagne here - to keep it as low as that. England coulda/shoulda scored more. This restriction made the win much more likely I think.

Pleasing to see, from an Aus viewpoint, a chase where both Smith and Head had no impact but all the other batters did.

I much, much prefer the idea of going with Short and not McGurk as Head's opening partner.
