What is it about Newcastle that sees them play brilliantly against the big boys and then stuff up completely against the nearly teams? It can be very frustrating at times, but really it seems as though Arsenal were like the sea breaking itself against the rocks tonight.

Smart move by Eddie Howe to go with 5 at the back and solve the Joelinton problem that way. Let Arsenal have the ball and hit them hard on the break..... which, of course is the answer to the question above

If they win, they need to send a medal to Kai Havertz, because I have no idea how a player at this level can miss so many chances over 2 legs..... 8 big chances missed according to OPTA, and 2 of them were literally tap ins

An awful, awful Man Utd performance that eventually sees them score the winner deep in stoppage time from a Fernandes free kick and a Maguire header

Don't get me wrong, it was a great ball in and a really good header to bury it, but oh my.... there were at least 4 Man Utd players and perhaps 5 who were offside when that ball was put in. Maguire was one of them and 3 of the others were preventing the defenders from keeping Maguire away from the ball. The linesman (who just moments earlier awarded a Leicester throw in to Man Utd until the ref over-ruled it) didn't spot all those players offside despite being in line and looking along the line..... no VAR, of course, so the goal stood

I don't normally go for the cheating officials line, so I won't, but that was an appalling decision. The cameras cut away to Fergie celebrating wildly in the stands.... of course he was..... he won about half of his titles on the back of 20 odd years of *modded* decisions like that in the last crucial minutes of games

If I was a Leicester fan, I'd be apoplectic with rage at that

apparently it's gone down as an OG, because it bounced down from the underside of the bar and went in off the keepers back .... what a shame for the lad, because that was one of the best goals you're ever likely to see.... take a boo son, take a boo

Proof that having VAR is better than not having it.

A simple VAR review would have ruled out the Maguire goal.

At the moment Newcastle are helping this to be a thumping game of football. I'm sure Eddie Howe will be telling them to take control of the game and not join in with all this harum scarum stuff, that just suits Birmingham

it stopped being a wild, mad, chaotic footballing spectacle and turned into a bit of a war zone. No wonder Eddie Howe wasn't prepared to risk either Isak or Gordon

That was a very different test for these boys tonight. They had to fight for everything and try to play football despite the agricultural nature of the game, but they came away with the win in very testing circumstances. I guess that's the attraction of the FA cup. You won't get many matches like that in the PL.

It felt like the longest game in the history of the world. 13 minutes of stoppage time!

Jeepers.... what a cluster *modded* that was today. Eddie got that set up completely wrong, judging by the result. I thought they were in with a decent shout before the game, but it was all over within the first 30 mins. I thought he'd set them up with 5 at the back the same as for the Arsenal game, but he didn't. He brought 2 players into that side today and had to sub them both out at half time

3 defeats in the last 4 games and only Southampton beaten. With Forest and Liverpool coming up next, Newcastle are in danger of slipping back down to mid table. That's what happens when you don't strengthen. Man City strengthened and one of their new boys hit a 14 minute hat trick
