The beautiful game!

without having seen the game, I'm going to guess that Newcastle were pushing for the equaliser and instead got opened up twice in injury time

comfortable win to get Newcastle back to winning ways. Another couple for Isak who now has 17 PL goals this season and a cracking team goal for Tonali. Isak becomes the first Newcastle player to score in 5 consecutive away games and Newcastle have won 4 consecutive away games in the PL for the first time since 1996

Forest slip up and Newcastle play them shortly, so there is an opportunity there if Newcastle have the wherewithal to make the most of it

the big talking point of the day was the Arsenal red card.

Part of me thinks that a red card is very hard to justify from just outside of the Wolves box. It's impossible to say that Wolves were denied a goal scoring opportunity from that far out, so no red there. In slow motion the studs appear to be raked down the shin (although sometimes things look much worse than they really are when slowed right down), yet In real time it looks cynical (there was no attempt to play the ball and the Arsenal player very quickly took his eyes off the ball and zoomed in on the players legs), but doesn't look particularly reckless or violent. It was right in front of the ref and he was pointedly looking directly at the foul, so given that he didn't miss the incident and that the slowed down images look poor I can see why VAR might not ask the ref to look at it again.

Was it a red card offence, though?

and yet.... Arsenal had everyone up for the corner and suddenly Wolves were countering, 3 on 2, until that player was chopped down, so another part of me thinks it's about time that the authorities crack down on the cynical hacking down of a player to kill a breakaway move. It seems to happen in every single game.

Was it a red card offence though?

PGMOL might want to tell their referees to tone down their bias against Arsenal, because its gone past the point of embarrassing. Ever since Arteta lost the plot on the state of refereeing after that SJP game last season (where I believe he had a right to complain on numerous bad decisions), its been pretty clear the referees are out to set the record straight.

I could give numerous examples, but I think the most obvious one was when PGMOL tried to explain away the differences between Saliba's red card being given, and a pretty much identical incident at Chelsea within minutes of it where VAR adjudged it to be a yellow. IIRC, there was something about the ball spinning in the air making it likely to deviate on bouncing and taking it away from goal that was given as the reason....which was obviously pure sh8te.

Sorry, but thats just not a red card. It was given as violent conduct btw, so the judgement is on the foul, not breaking up play ...

I haven't had much sympathy for Arsenal this season. They can be petulant, like their manager but yesterday's red was a terrible decision. It was a very obvious yellow for all to see...........bar Oliver!

Surely unless Tottenham do something miraculous, this is Ange's last game in the PL?

When you take out the first 10 Ange games where they scored 28 points out of 30 last season, its been pretty much relegation candidate results now for over 50 games. I literally have no idea how he still has a job

See, I think this is all part of the double standards in play. When Liverpool scored a goal at Carrow Road, and Klopp sprinted into the middle of the field and lost his glasses, everyone laughed and said he was just celebrating a last kick winner - when Arteta leaves his technical area by 50 cms, he gets fined. When Arsenal scored a last minute goal this season, people attacked him for celebrating too much, because it was unbecoming of a manager.. Arteta complains.... so does everyone. I see no reason why he's been singled out. God, Fergie is idolised and he was the master of the dark arts of football management, and as grumpy as anyone when things didnt go his way.

The fact is, Arsenal seem to be getting an ever magnifying list of terrible decisions against them, ones often that cannot be explained, and when PGMOL do they dont make sense.

I mean, it was only a couple of weeks ago they justified Saliba's penalty on the grounds the ball hit him, not him hitting the ball.... :facepalm

And that win was at home to Southampton, who are currently on track from points per game to beat Derby's all time worst season record.

So not really much of a saving grace.
