Green pitch and cloud cover

Could be tough for the indian batsmen if the aussie bowlers hir their line and length.

Bumrah must've been half tempted to bowl.

Possibly thinking about his own need to recover, BFP - although Cummins said that he would have batted too, if he had once the toss.

Add to this, the fact that the Aus pacers had a tough day just three days ago, may have been partly an influence.

Was just thinking this pitch is perfect for boland as he started his first over

And he knicks off jaiswal

You may be right, had bumrah not bowled 50 overs last week I'm certain he'd have bowled first.

Though you can see the big cracks under the grass so it may be tough to bat last

As I type boland gets kohli first ball and India are 17/3 and in danger of losing the game in the first session.

I can't remember seeing a pitch this green in Australia. It looks like a new Zealand wicket but with extra bounce so the edges carry.

Wow

I'm absolutely shocked that's been given not out

Has the 3rd umpire bottled it after the indian whinging in the last match?

I can understand it being ruled not out, but it really sounded like Wilson was very keen to call the NO

It was once automatic in Sydney you would bat first because the spinners would take over in the second half of the game. I miss the now exotic seeming variety back when the Aussies played two spinners at the ground, even if it meant leaving out a world class pace bowler. Still at least India have spin options, just in case the ground staff have been feeling nostalgic.

Rohit 'rested', but given the circumstances, surely that's it for his test career?

Would've been indias session

But that brain fade by Gill gives Australia the edge.

Kind of sums up his tests career that. Did the hard work but threw it away.

Pant is copping a beating from Starc.

First one was a bit of a lifter than whacked him straight on his (considerably sized) bicep - left a very large bruise immediately.

Next Starc over, Pant went to sway away from a bouncer, changed his mind and got smacked directly on the grill. The concussion test he went through seemed quite perfunctory.

One more hit and Starc can claim his wicket.

Boland has an amazing record at home. Hard to believe he's still first reserve.

Looking more and more like a good toss to lose. Batting not at all easy with the bounce and movement ... Australian openers probably very glad they didn't have to confront Bumrah first thing this morning. Might not be too long before they have to face him though !

India's last serious pair of bats really need to add a few here...130/6 off 62 reminds me of the 1960s :)

Washington Sundar should be charged with dissent, imo. That was seriously a long time he took to move after being given out, and then he moved at UlHaqian speed.

He won't be, of course, but he should be.
