Incredible win for the Netherlands- set 375, match ended in a tie and then Logan van Beek hit 30 in the super over and then took 2 wickets! A quickfire 28 in the proper innings too. They were 327/7 with 4 overs left.

Wonder if they considered getting Bas to bowl the super over?

they must have had a bit of help from wayward bowling, because they only scored 44 in those last 4 overs and not the 47 they needed for the tie

Yes, quite a remarkable performance from him - they needed 30 from 2 overs and he very nearly did it- out off the last ball with just a single needed. And then a record power play over followed by 2 wickets.
Must have been really small boundaries so de Loose going for 12 an over might not be so bad-his 2 wickets probably stopped the target being totally out of sight. Has the look of one of the infamous Durham defeats where victory seemed certain until something almost impossible to believe happens.

crumbs..... we've seen a few of them. Getting bowled out by Northants chasing 120 (ish) despite racing to 79 in double quick time before the first wicket fell springs instantly to mind

(although the facts above might be a bit hazy, because I've tried to blot it out of my mind) :scared

Yes.was that the one at the Riverside? I remember a game where someone I knew had wangled a hospitality ticket. He watched a bit of international cricket but not domestic..i think it was a modest target and we started strongly....after the game he told me that he was tempted to put a bet on Yorkshire because the odds were such that a fiver would pay big dividends if they won....but he didn't because he assumed there was no chance whatsoever that we would lose. I told him that had be been with me in the stands I'd have made him put the bet on!

There was another one day game years ago back in the Harmison days. I can't remember how many the opposition needed off the last over but it was something like 17 or 18 - and he had a shocker with wides and no balls. These days it wouldn't be a massive shock to concede that many runs in the last over but back then I remember everyone being stunned!

There was another one - one of our many Sky losses- where Rushworth bowled the last over. I have no recollection of the total he failed to defend but I remember the social media criticism was so bad that he temporarily deleted his twitter account!

As you mentioned on the other thread it's just possible - if things go wrong tomorrow- we could find ourselves in a tricky position in this current match. Ollie Robinson says he hopes tye pitch will bring the spinners into it as the game goes on...I'm not sure I do, especially if Ahmed is back. The one time we've come unstuck this season in red ball cricket was against Sussex when the third innings of the game proved decisive after two big first innings scores. Alastair Cook has spoken about sides getting into trouble in the third innings when they either have an insignificant lead or any sort of defecit.
A good morning session for us should end any slight chance of things going pear shaped and we could well go on and win ...but imagine if Ackermann puts Leicestershire in pole position and then Callum P rolls us over. Maybe Ahmed coming back isn't the concern- losing thanks to the performances of two players we have just signed would be another comical entry in the diary of disaster.
Surely it couldn't happen...I can't see it, Leicestershire winning as of now must be the least likely outcome but can't be ruled out.

Potts is released by England for the last two days. Nothing mentioned about Ahmed.

I'm a bit of a hypocrite over these things- was not a fan of substituting players during games...but since it happens I'm pleased Potts is back. Would be harsh on Leicestershire if Ahmed isn't returning too but...

Ahmed would make our taking of the wickets that much harder because he seems a reliable scoring batter, but would he then not have to replace Parkinson C as a straight swap replacement? I was worried about having to face 3 spinners on a final day pitch, but I don't think that can happen. I suppose they might have been tempted to replace the unable to bowl Mulder if they described them both as 'allrounder's', but Mulder's batting now and so Ahmed wouldn't bat...... I think... hope.... don't know. I suppose they must have named somebody ahead of the match

Poor old Pottsy..... everyone will be expecting him to head north, rock up and clear them out for almost nothing like Bunny (or was it Harmy?) did all those years ago, because he was so angry about missing out on the test side

Lets hope he gets there in time to take the new ball

Potts is ready to go this morning - in for Stan the man. Ahmed isn't in the test team but The Telegraph reporter says he has not been released from the squad. Either he's wrong or England want him available in case of a last minute change.

the inquiry recommends a points deduction of between 48 and 72 points for Yorks in this year's CC

because that matters........ or perhaps doesn't. No suggestion of a deduction for next year.... perhaps that was reserved for us

I said ages ago that the severity of any ban would depend on where Yorks were in the league at the time and because they're having a dreadful season and promotion is almost certainly out of the equation anyway, I thought the deduction would be severe.

even the bulk of the fine has been suspended
