club have confirmed Ackers on a 3 year deal, seemingly

We're getting close to the stage where we won't be able to complain about a paper thin squad any more

what will we do? :panic

I don't think there is anything in the Bedingham story, or at least I hope there isn't. That's why I was asking about Ackers playing status, because rumours have been circulating that he wasn't happy about being left out of the T20 squad and that perhaps Ackers was a fall back if Bedders decided to leave. As it is there is no conflict there.

He'd be daft to leave, imo, and we'd be daft not to do everything in our power to keep him happy in the north

and we can do it with Bedders still on board. Div 1 cricket at a county noted for producing international players..... unless he's deeply unhappy, I can't see a reason why Bedders would want to leave.... I see no advantage in a move for him from a cricketing perspective. I watched almost all of the innings he played last week and it was high class, so I hope we move heaven and earth to keep him on board

There might be something else going on, of course

do we know how long his contract with us lasts?

Not sure about the contract. I agree he shouldn't go but just wonder how we plan on getting Ackermann in the red ball side - unless we aren't and he's focusing on white ball stuff.

I would have thought that as it stands, Ackermann might be competition for Clark, who is playing well at the moment but doesn't have a great past record of consistent red ball form. Either way, a little bit of squad strength in depth would be good, if unusual!

Clark is playing well enough to keep Trev out of the CC side.... which is great for him, but a shame for Trev, who I think could become a very decent red ball lower middle order bat and occasional spin bowler. Getting some tap in the T20 unusually for him this year, which together with Clark's new role and the acquisition of Ackers, might put his Durham career in a bit of jeopardy

Still.... we are strengthening, which given the very real prospect of a div 1 return, I find very encouraging. We lost a few talented younger cricketers for lack of opportunity when we were a powerhouse side, some of whom, like Ben Raine and Will Gidman (in a coaching capacity) came back to us in the end

Agree about Trevaskis- I think he is the kind of player we need in.the squad - we've got the first team regulars and the youngsters with nothing in between so when the inevitable Carse and Coughlin injuries and Potts England calls happen we get exposed. Need players with a bit of experience who can step in. Absolute priority next year imo is to get a couple of seamers with some experience because we must assume Coggers. Carse and Potts will miss games. And if BC does stay fit he could well get England call too.

Apparently there were a number of counties- including Yorkshire- after Ackermann so it's encouraging we're able to get sought after players. Wonder if the Robinson signing opened the door to others- or the departure of Franklin!

Prospect of div 1 helps

no chance of that with Yorks presumably. And maybe they have a bad rep too after all the historical stuff..... although they might be able to pay better wages, even though they're more skint than we were when we got royally shafted. They get ECB help to sort their mess out.... hey ho.... perhaps I need to let it go.... Dobell thinks so. However badly Durham were treated, 2 wrongs don't make a right, seemingly. Yorks punishment won't be financial, it'll be the div 2 naughty step for them for at least a couple of years, I reckon

Good couple of games for de Leede in the WC qualifiers but not today against the Windies - 6 overs for 72!
