Weekly Top 5

1. Jasprit Bumrah - 121 - Bumrah didn't light up the first leg of IPL 2021 but has brought his electric Test performances in to the shortest form. However 121 is the third lowest weekly top score we've ever had.

2. Virat Kohli - 118 - A poor performance and a good performance sees Kohli finish second in a low-scoring week.

3. Quinton De Kock - 112 - QDK is having something of a resurgence in third quarter of the year and keeps on getting these top 5 finishes.

4. Simon Harmer - 65 - Harmer's scoring dropped off towards the ned of the County Championship but this week has been so low scoring that a score of 65 is enough for fourth.

5. Nicholas Pooran - 60 - THe Punjab player looked to have buried his spectres from the first leg of IPL 2021 with a very Pooran-ish performance against Rajasthan...but failed again vs Hyderabad. Just gets into fifth.

Overall Top 5

1. Simon Harmer - 4392 - Lower scores against Surrey and Northamptonshire means that Harmer's lead at the top is 559. With the Australian domestic season starting that does not feel enough.

2. Marnus Labuschagne - 3833 - This is Marnus eighth and last inactive week - now begins the graft to get back first place.

3. Joe Root - 3614 - The cancellation of the Pakistan tour means that Root's point scoring opportunities have been removed for a while. Is the 679 point between him and fourth spot bridgeable?

4. Quinton De Kock - 2935 - Three months ago QDK was in the bottom 3. He now moves up to fourth place after spending 10 of the past 12 weeks in 5th. It is his highest position since the first week of January.

5. Babar Azam - 2919 - The seventh inactive week in a row costs Babar the 4th place spot he has held for 17 weeks.

Ones to Watch

The resumption of the Australian Domestic Season will see two key players back on the scene. Peter Handscomb is just 25 points off of 10th place Ben Stokes - but has Virat Kohli 17 behind him. Who will claim that top ten spot?

There is a similar battle slightly further down as 13th placed Peter Siddle has a 15 point lead on resurgent Jasprit Bumrah. That litttle cluster just outside the Top Ten could be worth monitoring.

Highest Players by Format

Long Form - Joe Root - 3140
50 Over - Simon Harmer - 954
T20 - Babar Azam - 1897

Top 3 Averages

1. Marnus Labuschagne - 191.65
2. Simon Harmer - 190.96 (Down from 196.68)
3. Ravichandran Ashwin - 176.36 (Down from 189.4)

Ashwin's switch from long to short form cricket sees him fall a huge 13.04 points per week - but still holds onto his third place spot overall. Virat Kohli improves his meagre average by 1.31 to 95.72.

Highest Points by Discipline

Fielding – Quinton De Kock – 620
Fielding Bonus - Quinton De Kock - 100

David Warner has finally played....not that you would have notice....so the longest inactive player is Steve Smith who has had 20 weeks out the game.

Just realised I've ballsed this up and, much like the ECB, have left Babar Azam out....who scored more points than Jasprit.

Will crunch the numbers and update

Things I got wrong

1. Babar Azam's 164 points for this week means that it is he and not Jasprit Bumrah who wins Cricketer of the Week.

2. His 3083 total is still more than De Kock's so he is still 4th for the 18th succesive week.

3. He has extended his lead at the top of the T20 Point Scoring League with 2061

4. He has also extended his lead for Batting Bonus Points to 420.

5. Red Devil got 205 points not 41 and his total is now 4418.

The Tasmania vs Queensland game that would have seen the return to action of Labuschagne and Siddle has been postponed due to Covid concerns.

This week's updates (as well as being filmed in front of a live audience) also does not include any of today's IPL games as I started calculating before it started....not quite realising we had no fewer than 4 players in the morning game.

Weekly Update

1. Glenn Maxwell - 266 - The Big Show's 2019 winning year is the thing of legends - however he has not lived up to that bulling ever since. Last week gave us a little taster of that forgotten form. He moves up to 14th on the overall list.

2. Babar Azam - 191 - Babar dominates the National T20 Cup and is replicating his huge acquisition of points from last year. He is 355 points better off from just 4 games.

3. Virat Kohli - 156 - Looks like he is enjoying himself considerably more in the second leg of IPL 2021. He moves up 2 spots to breach the top 10.

4. Jasprit Bumrah - 145 - 5 wickets in two games would usually see you finish higher up the weekly table however Jasprit will be pleased to see himself in 13th overall; his highest position since March.

5. Kane Williamson - 112 - One does not associate Kane Williamson with T20 but the New Zealander has scored 61% of his points in this discipline this year. His 112 sees him nip into the Top 5 for the week.

Overall Top 5

The Top Three all were inactive this week.

For Harmer and Root this could be a long term thing, however Labuschagne had his return to cricket postponed due to Queensland's cancelled game against Tasmania.

Both Babar Azam and Quinton De Kock played but they remained 4th and 5th respectively.

Babar Azam's exploits in the National T20 Cup will be a concern to Joe Root.

The Summer of Joe had seen him with a 695 point gap on 4th spot - this is now halved in just two weeks.

Another couple of stellar performances from Azam and Root could be down a spot.

Ones to Watch

There is just 415 points between 8th placed Dawid Malan and 15th placed Peter Siddle.

The closest gap can be seen between 14 and 15 where Maxwell leads Siddle by just 18 points.

Another intriguing cluster is 11, 12th and 13th.

12th placed Peter Handscomb is 25 points behind Ben Stokes however 13th placed Jasprit Bumrah is 33 points behind him.

The Aussie and the Indian will both be in action over the coming weeks whilst Stokes will drop further down

Highest Players by Format

T20 - Babar Azam - 2252

Top 3 Averages

1. Marnus Labuschagne - 191.65
2. Simon Harmer - 190.96
3. Ravichandran Ashwin - 164.92 (Down from 176.36)

Ashwin's average has taken another almighty hit this week as he drops 11.45 points. He is now just 0.65 points above Joe Root. Glenn Maxwell has swung in the reverse direction as he has improved his weekly average by 11.94.

Highest Points by Discipline

Longest Inactive

It seems that 20 inactive weeks is all a player can take. David Warner played after his 20th week out, then Steve Smith did the same. This week our least active player is Peter Siddle who has been out the game for...20 weeks.

Weekly Top 5

1. Glenn Maxwell - 288 - After being largely anonymous for most of the year, Maxi has put on over 500 points in a fortnight. Piling on the points at just the right time for the World Cup. Moves up 3 places to 11th.

2. Kane Williamson - 147 - Whatever happens to the Hyderabad franchise after this campaign, Williamson has been their stand out player in this campaign and finishes second for the week to draw his IPL 2021 to a close.

3. Jasprit Bumrah - 146 - Just one point off second place, Bumrah has been far more dependable in the UAE leg of IPL 2021. He moves up two places on the Overall List to 12th.

4. Babar Azam - 131 - His National T20 Cup form continued this week, however has now left the camp to join up with Pakistan. The T20 top point scorer will be hoping for a profligate World Cup.

5. Ravichandran Ashwin - 122 - With this week's total he doubled his yearly tally of T20 points which perhaps reflects his lack of prowess in the shortest form to date. Nips into 5th spot for the week and moves up a spot to 8th overall at the expense of Dawid Malan.

Overall Update

Again, not much to report as the Top 5 of Simon Harmer, Marnus Labuschagne, Joe Root, Babar Azam and Quinton De Kock remain unchanged for the 10th week out of the last 11.

Azam is still zoning in on Root's third place spot, however. It is now down to just 209. The narrowest gap we have seen for 8 weeks.

Ones To Watch

With the T20 World Cup looming large we have a mouth-watering battle at the top of the table for most points in the shortest format.

Azam has dominated this for some while, however De Kock, Moeen, Maxwell and Pooran are all lining up behind him.

T20 Points to date of Players to feature in the World Cup

2. Simon Harmer - 190.96
3. Joe Root - 164.27

A further drop in Ashwin's average sees him drop out of the Top 3 - replaced by Joe Root. Maxwell improves his average by 11.81 points, meaning he has added 23.75 to his average since the restart of IPL 2021. Steve Smith's average takes the largest drop - down 12.88 to 122.
