Nominated for an Oscar for Chariots of Fire. Looking him up I've seen him in a lot of films, but can't remember him very well in them. I've thought he was in something and it turns out to be John Hurt. I remember him clearly in Chariots though, even though I saw it once nearly 40 years ago.

Although I have seen some of his earliest films, I remember him first in Alien, and then in time bandits. I have seen COF but apart from the beach and the quadrangle I don't remember that much about it. There was Tarzan, of course, but Ralph Richardson stole that show. After that it would be the fifth element

Sir Everton Weekes has passed away at the age of 95. One of the 3W's and still holding the record of 5 test centuries in a row. RIP.

Just saw that. Surprised he was still with us. Obviously not only one of the West Indies greats, but one of the best from anywhere. From Barbados, the greatest cricketing country in the world.

One of the great names , indeed.

Never saw him play...just slightly too early for me. But the reputation endured. From the rising part of the great West Indian story...

RIP

I'm sure he commentated for a while on the beeb. A long time ago, of course, if it was the beeb

Which of the 3W's became a pastor/preacher?

From BBC site, Weekes was the third oldest living test cricketer, junior to South African John Watkins and England's Don Smith.

Can't see from Wiki that any of the 3Ws was a preacher. They all stayed in cricket afterwards, then Weekes and Worrell had some involvement in politics and admin.

Wes Hall became a preacher but well after he retired from cricket.

Clearly I was undone by Hall being sneaky and having his FIRST name start with a W.

Jack Charlton has died. Another 1966 World Cup winner. But just as memorable as eccentric, route one Republic of Ireland boss. And just as direct, a quintessentially bluff, blunt speaking northerner.

yes, we were living in Ireland towards the end of his time in charge of RoI. Probably the best loved Englishman in Ireland.
