A happy new year to all at Durham

Just noticed that following on from Pieter Malan's rather impressive debut at Newlands there is now speculation over there that Aidan Markram may be forced to spend some time in the international wilderness, once his finger gets better. South African players don't seem to like doing that these days, especially with the possibility that the option of turning kolpak may become time limited to sometime this year.

Would we have him, if he could be unsettled persuaded?

Happy new year all!
I like that idea- after the disastrous start he was starting to find his feet here so I'm sure he'd score plenty of runs and - unfortunately for SA - a lot of their players seem to be weighing up their options.

useful white ball player as well, I think. With the added bonus of some economical offspin with the white ball

I wasn't a fan of him playing for us last time, but that was more the nature of his contract..... 4 early matches just seemed a total waste of money. This would be different, I think.

Idle speculation, of course, but there have been a lot of SA players recently who have turned their eyes towards a more reliable source of income than the SA quota system... and not all of them players at the back end of their international careers

During the last test match Mike Atherton was interviewing Mike Procter and asked him what SA could do about players giving up international cricket for a county contract. Procter effectively said there's nothing they can do!

I contacted the club regarding the decision to schedule a home fixture in Scarborough. Got a reply from David Jackson promising a press release shortly giving the rationale behind the decision. I wait with interest.

maybe we had an email from Colin G telling us, in his capacity as a completely disinterested cricket executive, to get ourselves over there or risk being docked all our hundredth money from the Nobbly Crazy Horses or whatever Yorkshire are going to be called

Just a start on beginning to get some of his £20m million back.

Me too. It will be fascinating to find out what the excuse rationale is.

don't get too excited. They'll just mumble platitudes..... too good an opportunity to miss.... an opportunity to develop the Durham profile in an exciting new future support franchise...... a developmental opportunity for our blossoming young squad......... Yorkshire's reciprocal offer of an extra T20 at South North was too good to turn down... it provided an opportunity to free up the Riverside and ensure that the club is best placed to take advantage should a touring team fancy playing an extra ODI against England and need a spare stadium to host it

I can already smell the rationale

Remember the RLC fixture v Hampshire is also scheduled for an out ground. This means during the height of summer i.e. End of June to end of August, there will be a total of 3 days cricket at the Riverside i.e. 1 T20 and 2 RL50.
Plenty of pop concerts mind!
I can't contain my excitement.

given when most matches will played at the Riverside, it might be worth investing in some long johns and a quilted blanket

chasing 165 to win in the BBL against Melbourne Renegades, Brisbane Heat raced to 84-1 off the PP yet ended up all out for 120, losing their 10 wickets for 36 runs, including losing 7-7 in 16 balls

It has made all the headlines, but It wouldn't warrant a mention here because the Capt and I watched collapses like that in what felt like every Durham innings in last years Dribble
