It's usually the case I think that when someone says that we need to have a clear eyed discussion about the future of the five day Test/BBC/NHS that what they mean is they want to get rid of it.

Tendulkar certainly would have been, who surely held as much leverage with his home board as the Don held in Australia.

Most of the comments from current players that I've heard have been very much against the idea of reducing Tests to four days.
Couple of recently retired players now commentators have come out in favour ; but I wouldn't say the idea is getting a lot of support within the game. Certainly not just Kohli opposing it - though his influence could be significant.

The attitude of Tendulkar and others helped keep drs out of Indian Tests for a few years...

that's why i hope his intervention will be important. I doubt there is another player in world cricket with any sort of clout.

the argument that 4 day tests will reduce player workload is laughable, because it is blindingly obvious that any freeing up of time in a busy international calendar will be filled, by the bean counters, with even more lucrative T20's or ODI's

I confess to feeling slightly more reassured. There have been a lot of people, legends, players, coaches coming out in support of 5 day cricket. Cricket administrators hate controversy; they have no bottom; they don't like sticking their head above the parapet, so I now feel hopeful that the ICC will kick this into the 'time is not yet ripe' long grass.

MCC declares support for 5 day tests

They have more bottom than the ECB, unsurprisingly, although the cautious support for 4 day tests from the ECB, was probably in the hope that it would give them a whole day at the end of every match to crawl around the stands on hands and knees looking for any small change that might have fallen out of the pockets of unsuspecting supporters
