the paper you send it on won't be soft enough for Mr G's delicate posterior

the only way he would not use that to wipe with would be if you sent every word on a separate £20 note

Excellent piece. Rayner's county coverage is much missed during the season.

Colly must have been right when he said Carse had international potential. It seemed a bold comment but perhaps an astute one!

there are so many trundling medium pacers in county cricket that England have become obsessed by pace......... again! rewind back to 2004... these things always go in cycles.... not that I disagree with that, btw... fast bowling... real fast bowling is a fundamental part of the game and it's been in real danger of being 'chief exec'd' out

Wonder if Colly, as part of the coaching set up, has any input into the selection of the squad.

I suspect he does. They'd be foolish not to take his views into account.

am I right in thinking that Kevin Shine can no longer coach all the pace out of him?

Not so sure that there are so many bone hard pitches nowadays anywhere in the world-drop in pitches seem to be the vogue in both Aussie and New Zealand and the top bowlers in domestic Caribbean are spinners as they are, as always,on the sub continent.

That's correct, been binned as has the spin bowling guru. Killeen and Glen Chapple are currently abroad somewhere with Anderson, Wood and other casualties. And neither could be described as fast bowlers.

Just remembered that Carse put in a matchwinning bowling performance at Lords at the back end of last season,no better venue to get on England's radar. No London myopia, of course, that's just a figment of Northerner's imagination.

No worries, guys-DCCC is rich and new signings are on their way.
Excerpt from Finance Director post which has now been filled.
"DC is now entering a new period of development, both on and off the pitch, underpinned by financial stability and materially increased future revenue streams. Whilst the playing squad is likely to be enhanced, there is also a significant opportunity to develop the ground further, fully capitalising on the commercial opportunity afforded by the site".
