Just coincidence that his dad is also stepping down as el Supremo?

A shame if he is going. I wonder if the family illness he was dealing with is a factor. I know he has had an injury but he seems to have been out of favour so perhaps moving on is for the best.

Apparently he also has a knee injury requiring surgery!
At least it's not the ankle...unless the injury was diagnosed by Nigel.

Yep! Was always risky for him to come into a test match without having proven his fitness by playing for Lancashire. Although if he'd done that be might have been playing tonight and it would have been an even worse defeat.

Confirmed now. He wasn't going to be offered a contract extension so he has left to pursue other opportunities.
Not sure it was the right decision, at the very least he is a goid middle order player in white ball cricket - and we haven't got many of them.

Richo qualified in Financial Management with one of our sponsors
so he has a career to fall back on. I'm not aware of a w/k coming through the ranks so does this mean Poytner being retained?- that doesn't excite me.
Wonder if Rimmington's resurgence means a contact renewal?
Savings on Smith and Richo's salaries, which together will be significant, would provide the finance for a top batsman.

Yep. Should be able to find somebody. I'm still not sure about the exact rules on Irish players, I think he will be ineligible unless he was an overseas player and surely even we wouldn't think of that. But I wonder if someone can sort of retire from Irish cricket and stay on. I doubt it but maybe there are some loopholes. I think I'd get rid of him even if he can stay! In fact I think I'd leave him out of the next game! Only Durham could sign an Australian keeper-batsman who has scored test and ODI centuries and persist with Poynter as wicketkeeper and captain! Although Handscomb took a blinding outfield catch the other night and a great run out.

He's another one who seems to have become a bit part player at best so it probably won't be a surprise if he has left.
Fair enough to shed some players if they're not likely to play a part for us but they need to be replaced. A couple of injuries to batsmen might be a problem because there aren't many options.

We are now down to 15 fulltime professionals and that includes Wood, Rimmington and Weighell with only Rimmington of the three appearing to be in current plans.Clearly major recruitment is required, hopefully already in place.

Lets hope so. It'd be asking for trouble to release these players without having replacements lined up. The finances must be in better order so there should be no reason to get rid of players if they haven't got replacements lined up.
Although odd decision making and Durham often go hand in hand!
