is the pitch drying out.

Would not fancy having to be in the field tomorrow, especially if the batting becomes easier

Sending in a nightwatchman when you have just been bowled out for 85? The day just keeps getting worse. Why gift a free wicket to Ireland early?

I'm sure they'll be gifted a free wicket (or 5) even if leach wasnt in

Well that was crap.

Should have kept the lead to 80, but instead it's 120 because we can't bowl out the tail. Again, bodes badly for next week.

Need a bare minimum 350 in the second dig I reckon. Seems unlikely.

I know it's not sensible to say England will score 350 after being bowled out for 85... but they should really. Root is a class act and they need runs from him. But others will contribute. They won't be facing Glenn McGrath.

If they had faced GMcG today, maybe they'd have been all out for 50.

The batters get criticised as a group in these situations and so tend not to get isolated like bowlers do. So I'm left to comment that it wasn't a good day for Leach and Woakes, with the Ashes not far away.

Ed Smith got a lot of praise last year that I wasn't persuaded he deserved. He perhaps should stand some scrutiny for selecting this strange batting side.
I always say that everybody's right.
