50 partnership has taken almost 30 overs and Lees has 41 of them but very impressive resistance. Lets just hope this blunting of the new ball and bowlers makes things easier for the rest of the batsman.

Here we go - Lees out for 59 and immediately followed back to the pavilion by Smith! There really aren't any excuses for collapsing after such a good start but I think that's what will happen.

looks as though we've taken the decision to try and grind out a draw. Batting all day feels unlikely, but if we were to do it, it would surely boost batting confidence ahead of the Sussex game

it will be interesting if Sussex look as toothless as they do against Leics when they come up here on Thursday

Just confirming what we already know-Smith, Richardson and Poytner should be nowhere near the 1st team.

Yep, one of them maybe when Bancroft and Steel come in but definitely not all of them. I'd have Eckersley in for a start.
Lees, Harte and Burnham ( pretty decent return ) will emerge in credit but that's about it barring an unlikely rear guard action this afternoon.

Another one gone! Isn't Critchley another part time bowler? Or batting all-arounder at best?

And now Weighell runs himself out just before tea! The circus is back in town.
They're making Derbyshire look like worldbeaters.

9 down! Only mitigation is that Emmerson said Richardson was out to a ball that kept very low and Burnham to a stunning catch.

But still a collapse of 6-32 against a modest attack and after sn excellent opening stand. Might just be early season rustiness but that middle order should have been strengthened.

A dire start. The batting failures all too predictable but letting Derbyshire recover from 0/2 to post 200 in the first innings and then failing to put them under pressure in the second was poor. Can't draw any conclusions after one game but if it wasn't a fluke and the bowlers are going to have problems on flat pitches then it will be a big problem. Time will tell.
Lees, Harte and Burnham are the ones to emerge with credit but that's about it imo.

I see there's an extra members forum on Friday night with Bancroft and Sir Ian. The latter probably there to act as a minder and dissuade anyone from asking awkward questions!

Yes but it's a very important it. With Steel, Bancroft and Eckersley to come in that gives us a pretty solid top 6. I suspect that Poytner's 80 against the students swayed his selection this time but, hopefully, the useless leprechaun will now disappear under a fairy circle never to appear again.
Given the batting selected for this game, we couldn't expect anything other than defeat once they posted that 2nd innings score.

all rather fizzled out.... which is a pity. At lunch I was hopeful that we might put up a better showing than that. 6-32 sounds all too typical
