And Warner is participating in IPL. :d'oh:

Cricket Australia must be trying to rival FTECB in illogical decision making!

Given the scores of our overseas in the opening games in the last 2 seasons 0,2,0,0 Cricket Australia are probably doing us a favour.

bad boy Smiffy, too

The absence of Smith was the first thing I noticed from that touring party, so presumably he won't be the capt for the year

I can only imagine that Eckersley is hoping to fill the gap vacated by Davis as the sister's eventual replacement

Speaking of Poynter I see he has made his test debut - against Afghanistan. No prizes for guessing how many he scored but quite bizarre that he was batting at number 6.

perhaps Ireland felt that Poynter was the player with the most experience of coming in 4 down with only 55 on the board

Let's hope so. The top order looks stronger than in the past couple of years but not that middle order still looks dodgy to me.

Why "bad boy Smiffy, too"? Surely he hasn't blotted his copybook? In any case, I wouldn't have him as a definite starter in the first team anyway. The choice as skipper comes down to Rushworth, Steel, or Lees for me. I also reckon Eckersley is well worth a punt as an alternative to Poynter.

I agree about Eckersley although I think - if we do sign him - he's one of a good few players who is more of a useful squad member than ideal first team regular. Same as Poynter and too many of the other likely regulars for my liking.

It's a whole new ball game this season-literally. Balls with a less pronounced seam, use of heavy roller and playing most CC games in high season. All we need now is hope Vic is able to produce pitches which lessen the effect of the ludicrous no toss rule.
Rushy is hugely confident that we'll do well- knows his cricket does Rushy :D

Yes, we could really have done with a proper quality middle order batsman (kolpak, probably) to prop up the middle order and allow some of the less proven/consistent batsmen to play around him. All we need is Dale Benkenstein and a time machine....

sorry KO, the first line was in reply to the comment about Warner playing in the IPL and I was noting that Steve Smith was too

Rather unfortunate then that I began the next line talking about the absence of Will Smith from the touring party

Lots of scope for confusion

Yep. I'd have thought their priority would have been to replace Colly in the middle order and whoever it was would probably also have been a good option as captain. They may prove us wrong and easily secure promotion but I have my doubts.
