Should Alistair call it a day at the end of the series? I personally think he hasn't got long left, however the fact that we are still looking for one opener, worries me in that we really can't afford to be looking for two openers at the same time.....

Can't see Steely carrying on if he can't score runs. Why would he?

Probably due to lack of replacements, he will not be dropped. Doubt he will retire until the replacements are not there. ECB may well let him know that he would be dropped once replacement is there and then Cook might opt to retire on his own terms.

The demise of Cook feels sudden to me. I remember thinking a couple of years ago when he became England's leading run scorer, that he was still young enough to climb up the rankings in the top ten of all time.... certainly to 2nd place and maybe even deposing SRT
