I understand the reason why it happens but that doesn't make it any less sad for the lad. It's all very well to say Bairstow will only play a couple of games but he's only a few innings away from a battle with Buttler for the test gloves. I think it's an open secret that Bayliss would love to see Buttler in the test eleven. I should imagine wicketkeepers getting fed up with being the bridesmaid at their club is the main reason for them seeking a county that values them more highly. You rarely get international recognition as a stand in player.
Bairstow is good enough to get into the England test xi as a batsman, not as if there are any outstanding candidates in the county scene.
Hodd has publically said on more than one occasion he is enjoying his cricket at Yorkshire and has probably got more game time up North than when he was at Surrey or Sussex.

What do you expect him to say, I hate having to step down every time Bairstow's available. The first you'll hear of him being fed up will come when his agent gets him an offer from another DIV 1 county.

I thought that, given the overcast cool conditions down here yesterday. I think it merely demonstrates how flat the Rosebowl pitch is this season. Alot of draws on the cards!
