Didn't take him long to fall foul of umpires. Lucky man actually because his actions amounted to clear dissent

Warwickshire drop Sam Hain and a youngster Matt Lamb is added to today's squad along with Ian Westward who's recovered from a foot injury. A return match with Surrey now faces them, will be interesting to see if there's any grit in them to stop this slide to relegation.
I'm looking forward to the Gloucestershire v Durham game which is surely a must win for Durham if that points deficit is to be quickly reduced.
Work expands to fill the time available, so why do today what can be put off until tomorrow.

Yorkshire’s 13-man squad to face Hampshire County Cricket Club:
Gary Ballance (Captain), Jonny Bairstow (Wicket-keeper), Tim Bresnan, Ben Coad, Matthew Fisher, Peter Handscomb, Alex Lees, Adam Lyth, Steven Patterson, Azeem Rafiq, Adil Rashid, Joe Root, David Willey.

Yorkshire have Root and Bairstow back, which absolutely transforms the batting of course. Hodd steps down and I imagine Leaning will make way for Root. Azeem has been added to the squad, curiously.
I always say that everybody's right.

I think it's sad for Hodd that he's an automatic drop when Bairstow returns, he seems to have a lot of talent and I wonder if he'll seek pastures new if this remains a permanent situation at Yorkshire.

Judging by the weather forecast Warks will almost certainly be batting first today, so an early test from the Surrey attack is in prospect. Probably exactly what's needed on the basis that if at first you don't succeed try................

Bairstow's only going to play one or two games a year though. Not going to leave out Ballance or Handscom.

I understand the reason why it happens but that doesn't make it any less sad for the lad. It's all very well to say Bairstow will only play a couple of games but he's only a few innings away from a battle with Buttler for the test gloves. I think it's an open secret that Bayliss would love to see Buttler in the test eleven. I should imagine wicketkeepers getting fed up with being the bridesmaid at their club is the main reason for them seeking a county that values them more highly. You rarely get international recognition as a stand in player.

Yorkshire will bowl. Today should be cloudy, with clearer weather over the weekend.

Hameed being technically superior to Cook doesn't seem to be helping him score runs.

No Kleinveld, Sanderson, or Wakeley. Azharullah back from injury and Andy Carter out of retirement.

Bairstow is good enough to get into the England test xi as a batsman, not as if there are any outstanding candidates in the county scene.

Hodd has publically said on more than one occasion he is enjoying his cricket at Yorkshire and has probably got more game time up North than when he was at Surrey or Sussex.
