UEFA Champions League 16/17

The beautiful game!

Just reading the wenger comments.

Apart from 2003-04 when they signed nothing, I think Arsenal had been spending a lot of money on players when wenger was successful. The only real year that united blew arsenals spending out the water was around 2001-02 when Veron went. Before that it's touch and go who was spending most, with wenger also inheriting the basis of a George Graham title squad. Wenger inherited a team in his first year with I believe the two most expensive paid footballers in English history (Bergkamp joined just before he got there, overmars was his first signing).

After wenger couldn't produce squads with money, he never again over achieved. Despite the violins for arsenal, they have spend as a top 4 achiever and got what they paid for.

Wenger is increasingly tactically unaware, increasingly allows his faith in poor players like coqulain last forever (who else would play almuniea for like three seasons before realising he was a league one player), and in recent years he's had the money, but never bought in the areas of most need.

He's a has been clinging to an unbelievably unjustified wage

They need to clear out half of this squad tbh.

even with all the money they have spent on centre halfs they still look lost when Kompany is out and with how many injuries he has had then they cant rely on him

mangala, stones and otamendi cost something like £110M

they need upgrades at full back as well

Gundogan was a big loss when he got the bad injury imo

The city squad just needs a few additions. Offensively they are fine, but a keeper and 3 defenders would be nice

well that didn't last long

4 of the 5 goals could be argued to be a result of sloppy/poor defending tho

taking nothing away from that finish by falcao, which was class

4 shots, 3 goals...

Would city do better to put an outfielder in goal.

Likelihood is they will clear out the whole defence except Stones, because he cost 4 billion, he's young and they've got to stick with him, even though he is crap.

Funny thing was before this game started everyone was saying how well City have sorted their defensive issues out in recent games, clearly after this evenings performance they are no where near.

How much money do city keep throwing at the problem. 550,000 million in 5 years so far.

As for Stones, best ask Pep what he saw in him.
