After he retires, Cook may finally get the respect he deserves. He's deeply unlikable based on some his actions over the last few years - the KP saga, his comments after the World Cup etc etc - but he's one of England's greatest batsmen and as a captain has achieved feats that were highly impressive such as beating both India and South Africa away.

Why play against England then? It wasn't a public goodbye, and it stopped someone getting a few games before the CL.
