He was horribly wayward in 05 as well. Looked a shadow of his former self, wasn't pretty to watch, suprised Stuart Clark didn't get a go in that series tbh

It was so painful to watch. It just seemed to go all at once.

I guess they stuck with him due his past record. At the time the team was so successful, that i guess the selectors were almost scared to drop anyone.

He did get a recall though in BD

His last test innings has become one of the most memorable innings by an Australian batsman.

201 :salute

A nice way to sign out from international cricket.

A heck of a last game - besides the 201 n.o., he also got 8 wickets (@ 11 or 12 each) and then the MotM award, and then was dropped!

Only batsman (loose term there) to score a double as a nightwatchman, and only player with a lifetime average below 20 to have scored a double.

Shame he was not dismissed. Then he could have claimed to have the highest average of any number 1 in Australian history.

Not too surprising, I suppose.

A good, and very long, career. Probably always cursed with being compared to his elder brother - and he does suffer in this comparison, but not many wouldn't.

Case for being one of the better players ( I would say best, but I am sure I will miss someone) to never play a test match?

45 FC 100s, near 15000 runs with an average of 52..... would have been 28 at the time the old guard started to break up post 2006-07.

I take it hes married to the daughter of an Aussie selector, and at the first family gathering he got caught taking a leak in a flower pot?

mostly a matter of bad-timing, I reckon, Sussex. Did he go on a tour?

I'd would be properly amazed if he never got in a squad.

There are some picks over Hussey despite the timing. After Waugh retired for instance, there were gaps say post 2004 that opened up. They went to Symonds, not a standout FC pick at all, and went back to Darren Lehmann if memory serves. They re-picked Simon Katich. They gave Mr Cricket the nod over his brother despite very similar records. They capped Brad Hodge, Phil Jacques, Chris Rodgers, Cameron White, put Shane Watson up to open by 2008.... all had inferior records.

Even in (was it) 2008ish they picked MArcus North. Id rather have a 57 year old Dave Hussey than a peak Marcus North.....

If I lived in a country that capped Rob Quiney and not me, I would be demanding an official apology from the government.... that applies to you also, GJ....

Giles Clarke, president of the England and Wales Cricket Board and chairman of the ICC's Pakistan Task Force, has cautioned that bringing international cricket back to Pakistan will be an arduous process requiring "a lot first class travel and expenses".

What he meant.
