Ben Foakes was just named Wicketkeeper of the Year by The Cricketer.

Discuss.

I thought he was a bit of a teacher's favourite who had done very little to deserve his reputation, but he had a genuinely impressive season this year. So well deserved. He's been a favourite name for a while of those who are against the batter-keeper preference. That'll increase now, and he could easily be the Chris Read to Bairstow's Geraint.

Foakes is a couple of years younger than Bairstow so he has time on his side. I can see Bairstow switching to being a full time batsman if we continue to struggle to fill our middle order which would open up the way for another player, especially if Foakes continues to score runs and keep well.

Also Middlesex has appointed Daniel Vettori as their coach for T20 games. Holds similar positions for Brisbane in BBL and Bangalore in IPL.

Why is just one BBL game on C5 (Boxing Day)?

Sussex have signed Laurie Evans from the Bears. He's never got close to his potential in the LVCC but he's a fine limited overs bat, bit of the Wes Durston about him. Wonder what's going on a Warwickshire as they seem to have lost a few players now.

Won't Middlesex and Bangalore have overlapping fixtures? How's he going to manage being head coach of both?

Interesting job title they have given him - Sport Director.

Jim Troughton head coach and reporting into Giles (I actually wrote Flower and had to delete).

Giles in charge of men's, women's and academy.

Presumably they will branch out into other sports so they can be overseen rather than just cricket.
