TBH Monty panasar chose Northamptonshire when he from Luton and I think Northant played games in Luton before and well Luton is in the south so Northant is a south county.
northant really can't be classed north considering how close it is to london.

we used to have quite a lot of money, but Steve Harmison gave most of it to his brother, and Ian Blackwell ate the rest
