The usual theory about moving your best batter just moves the problem couldn't have been better exemplified than by moving Root from four to three.

Yeah You're fully entitled to your point of view and I recognise and accept that. Not that they'll both play together in their 1st series-Hameed's 1st series is now over.Hopefully Jennings is successful in the next 2 tests, not implausible given that he and Hameed are of very similar temperament and ability. Then both surely will be fully entitled to retain their places v SAffers in the summer. That top 4 would perform a platform with an explosive middle order to follow. As pointed out in the previous post moving Root from 4 to 3 doesn't solve the problem it just transfers it.

looks like county cricket will be full of SA cricket players.
Can't blame them though but wish ICC will take action so SA do not become the next Zimbabwe.
really if I was in charge wouldn't even play or tour SA till they fix up.

Extract from The Spin blog which explains the Kolpak criteria. Saffers are worried that Brexit will end this avenue of opportunity.

"In 2009, the ECB finally found a fix. They concocted a another new rule which meant that only players who had held a valid work permit for four years would be able to sign Kolpak deals, unless, like Viljoen, Harmer, and Van Zyl, they had played one Test match in the past two years or five in the past five. Since the ECB made that change, the debate has settled down, and the number of Kolpaks on the county circuit has declined. Today the ECB say it is around 3-4% of the domestic/non-overseas registered playing base. This latest flurry of fresh Kolpak signings is down to three things: the weak Rand, the increase in quotas in South African cricket, and Brexit."

don't count down the 4th reason as well.
not that many people actually want to stay in SA so are trying to move to other countries to keep their wives or give their children a better life.
HD Ackerman moved for that reason.

The Home Office will introduce tougher immigration rules once no longer a member of the EU. Players will no longer be able to claim restraint of trade as they can under current regs.

'One of the many little potential side effects that went unreckoned during the referendum campaign was what the result would mean for county cricket. But the Kolpak players themselves, like many other migrant workers in the country, soon began wondering where the result left them. The day after the vote, Brendan Taylor, on a Kolpak deal with Nottinghamshire, asked the ECB for guidance. They’re waiting to hear from the Home Office. In the meantime, cricketers are working under the assumption that any Kolpak deal signed before the end of 2017 won’t be affected by Brexit. A race is on, then, to hitch up with a county club before the door is shut.'

Who is your favorite cricketer? My favorite cricketer is Virat Kohli. He is just a best batsman I have ever known. Leave Sachin, we are talking about this generation of cricket. :india

There's a contradiction in there somewhere.

In terms of the last decade or so, you'd have the likes of Sanga, Younis Khan, AB, Kallis, Tendulkar who'd have equal if not better claims to be the best Test batsman of the time. In ODIs Sanga and AB would stand up to Kohli.

In the current game, he's probably competing with Root, Smith and Williamson as the best batsman of his "generation".

In fact unless your talking about just this year, there are a fair few players who'd have the mantle of best batsman.

I don't think anyone whose watched cricket for longer than a year would have Kohli as the best batsmen they have ever known.

Spot the contradiction yet?

Not sure my favourite players have ever been the best players. Players I warm to in this India side are Vijay, and (OK, this squad) Ishant. And for England, Moeen and Woakes.

Any particular reason why you like Ishant Arthur.

Can't say it's much more than the vibe. But partly because of his spirited tour of Australia early in his career when it looked like India had a fast bowler. Partly the incredible negativity of Indian fans towards him when for a long time his biggest sin was to be India's best available pace bowler.

interesting same reason as me but for me Trent bridge was the turning point for me. bowled a really good spell when I was basically waiting for him to be *modded* but he wasn't and next game won a game easily for india in the 2nd innings.
