should have kept one Alistair.... your fault. far too many 'speculative' reviews in test cricket these days.... that isn't what the review is for

wrong player it was Jayant Yadav and not LBW was an edge.
for kohli it was a dropped catch.
Vijay miss stumping.
but in reality the english press and fans are really missing the point on the missed chances.
the only real reason the misses chances look crucial is that it takes ages for england to create chances again so any half chances have to be taken whereas india could drop or not take the 50% chances and still take wickets again.
reckon india missed about 10-15 chances in this game, difference being Ashwin and co will create chances every over, Ali and Rashid won't.

Didn't see the Stumping chance but it probably was difficult.
Rashid catch was tough and for yadav Anderson shouldn't have been desperate for a wicket earlier.
Root catch should have been taken but throughout the series the slip catchers have been falling asleep during the day, although most of the times it has been Cook that been dropping the catches.
Really Cook looks gone in the field and really need to go as captain.
Really wasn't that surprising Root captained better in 2 overs than Cook did throughout the series.

another England tour, another abject failure, another post mortem on the state of England and English cricket

has a familiarity to it that rather like... it means the world is still turning and normality still reigns

it's like having nothing worth watching on Christmas day, or the X factor being rubbish

the reviews getting resetted after 80 overs changed the mindset teams waste reviews closer to 80 overs and then waste them if teams are 6 or 8 down.

Probably, but you can also be gracious in victory.

Oh yes. As they say, there's only one thing worse than a bad loser...

Technically wouldn't bad loser/Bad winner be linked considering if one side are being bad losers chances are the winners will be bad winners to counter it.
:hide

Not necessarily.

looking at it now quite ironic how english fans/Media think india are being bad winnings and the indian fans/media think england are being bad losers.
probably both teams need to stop it now and just get on with the game.
really when you look at it it been going on since the 2nd test.
India and England really don't get on do they.

I think it's a big mistake to talk of the media and England fans in the same breath as if they think and talk alike. Most England supporters on here are pretty even handed and sane. I suspect most of the ranting is to be found on twitter a good place for it

Agreed. Let's get back to discussing cricket.

Very poor series for woakes which is a shame I had hopes for him following the summer.

Woakes is still very young and inexperienced so not that surprising he struggled in alien/docile pitches especially when you considering england haven't really done that well at london lately either.
Really the biggest issue not been the spinners or the batsman but would say the pace men below Anderson and broad.
not really sure England would be able to replace both of them when the time comes.
india got a great chance of doing well in england during 2018.
with Anderson in decline and broad having injury concern plus average spinners england bowling attack looks poor and need certain conditions to take wickets one particular reason why they struggling at test lately.

look at the bright side England might not lose 4-0.
Chennai just got hit by a cyclone which is regarded as the worst to hit the city ever.

pretty good article this seem like India vs England replacing India vs australia in terms of controversy and teams/players just not getting on.

looking at cook's comments today about root i am guessing if it wasn't 7 months til the next tests he would stand down as captain after the next game

you dont start questioning your position openly like that if he wasn't seriously thinking about it

he appears to have the backing of strauss and bayliss still and they might convince him that he doesn't need to make the decision now and he can "sleep on it" for a couple of months

just a thought, if root is made test captain does morgan continue as ODI captain ? its not unheard of but would be a bit strange for the test captain to then play limited overs cricket under someone else.

Puts pressure on Morgan, with his form not being the best.

Who will be vc of the Test side?
