Fifty partnership. Well done to these two.

i just worry that given we wouldn't be losing anything really by replacing bairstow with buttler at keeper, would we gain longer term by bairstow just batting

imo bairstow has shown he is more than capable of batting in the top 5 and when you look at the difference in averages that the likes of stewart and sanga have between games they kept and games they just batted it is quite marked

Agree with that. Could Buttler make that transition ? He won't if he goes off freelance t20 ing...

Lunch at 385/8 . :Eng: morning , in the end.

agreed

thats as good a morning as we could have expected imo, and better than we looked to have a chance of when we lost stokes and woakes

Great morning for England. A lot of work for India to do to get back into this, batting last.

The current cricket management encouraged Buttler to go T20ying in order to work on his skills so he's not to blame for that. Players on central contracts more or less place their career in the hands of others.
Work expands to fill the time available, so why do today what can be put off until tomorrow.

looks like we going to get a cracking game.
Wouldn't go that far Arthur saying india got a lot of work to do to get back into it since it is still england 60-40 and could really change quickly into india favor if they bat well and get a lead.
England still have to bowl well to make 380 look good.
Ashwin been mentioning this game a lot yesterday.
http://www.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/c ... 65807.html
India 327 all out
England 413
Think media was crapping themselves when india were 119/5 in the first morning and the ball turning big and everyone thought 327 was 150 runs too many.

in the end England probably only got par so they still got a lot of work in winning this game.

Wonder if Rich will be happy with him talking about his playing experience in Mumbai during the lunch break on TMS and him mentioning it yesterday on Sky.

wonder if you will ever realise the difference between something being useful and it being career defining

or the difference between winning a toss improving a sides chances in a game compared to deciding the game

or knowing when to just change the record

Not blaming him , hope. Just that in the current situation he will have to concentrate on red ball batting if he is to reinvent himself as a full time batsman in Tests.
Given his wonderful skills in the short form it does present a bit of a dilemma for him as to what he makes his priority ...

England have done well. The chances of we getting lead are less probable. Even if we manage lead it wont be substantial.

the other side to it is when he got dropped from the test team previously it was said to be due to just being burned out as he had played almost solid cricket for the previous 15 months, keeping in all three formats

is he too valuable to our limited overs team to risk that happening again for someone who isn't a natural test batsman

Ball did a good job with the bat ; out at last to a nice catch by Parthiv ; and Jos needs to consider managing the strike now...
