ali had faced over 100 deliveries and scored 50 runs, he had scored 3 or 4 boundaries already with the same shot

we were 230-2 and had 2 set batsmen at the crease, if that isn't the time to look to try and be positive i dont know what is

ali has got out playing shots like that his whole england career so i hardly think bayliss's comments before the game were much of a factor

I know a lot of batsmen who played to a cautious 50 and got out that way , there would be howls of derision on this thread.

surely it would depend on the situation ?

and in the situation i have described above i dont see it being a problem

bairstow getting out to a sweep when he isn't well set, when we are under a bit more pressure and when ashwin is all over stokes at the other end, is a much worse dismissal imo

Stokes is having the luckiest series ever. Multiple drops, edges not carrying, missed stumpings and even bowled with a ball that didnt remove a stump....

they aint really placing alot of confidence in him, basically saying ballance and duckett are unselectable and we dont have anyone else

Buttler has to prove he has the technique to cope with the bowling at this level, which so far he hasnt shown in this breif innings (already a couple of edges short).... and also has to show the patience. Yet in that Yadav over you already seen in the middle that he made a pre-meditated decision to come down the pitch to the bowler, which doesnt fill me with confidence.

9 balls and he is already losing his patience... i wouldnt be playing reverse sweeps in this situation either unless I had a 100 on the board.
