if the ECB were going to be picking someone based on race and to try and encourage more British Asians into the game i hardly think someone from Ascot who went to the Hampton School and Cambridge would fit that profile

Ansari can bat a bit, and bowl a bit. The prefect fit for this squad, whether he's muslim, asian, british, christian.

just found it odd that all.
feels weird though labelling a player Muslim when he isn't a muslim though.

not sure he fits the 3rd spinner role perfectly.
think Leach would have been a better fit in the squad.

not trying to be awkward bhav but it does help if you provide a link to the articles you reference about stuff like this so other people can read what the article said as well

just helps the discussion

generally after the rajkot test, loads of articles propped up and I remember few were present in bangladesh.

sorry about that forgot to reference articles.

to me reading those it suggests wanting to recognise the inclusion of those players and the significance of it rather than any of them were picked purely because of race and/or religion

thought he was a non practising Muslim, which probably mean he isn't a Muslim.
not really sure what it means really.

It doesn't really matter. the selectors wanted this type of player for this winter, and he was the likely candidate.

interesting article that goes against Nasser hussain and Ather kohli defensive field point.
not sure Kohli was that defensive just that he employed an in and out field.
think stopping singles are more effective than actually having attacking fields that allows strike to be rotated especially to batsman like root that is likely to score singles and boundaries at will with such fields.
"Still, where was the harm to have a few more men catching? At least, it would show the batsman who was on top. Yes, but what if Virat Kohli thought it might show something else as well? Gaps, which could be exploited to release the pressure he wanted built. Runs which would mean his spinners cannot get their rhythm right. And a momentum shift with England having a considerably long batting line-up. So, instead, he forced the opposition to take sizeable risks for singles and twos."
I generally give this field the name chokey field since it is very hard to score runs off especially on a slow turning wicket, the pitch needs a bit of bounce for the batsman to get an easy single option like Rajkot made Ashwin bit ineffective.
Not sure why Kohli would change it either considering the likes of Williamson, Sangakkara etc have failed using this type of field.
