Hard to believe Somerset have never won the County Championship.


Especially in the 70s when they had all those great players.

Most counties had great players then though, as nearly every test player of any note had an apprenticeship in the English game.

Somerset had some other good players to add to Viv, Joel and Beefy but never quite got over the line...

Kent, Essex, Middlesex and Notts always seemed to be that step ahead...

I think you mean Hants instead of Notts!

We should have won the title two years in a row in 73 and 74. We had stunning overseas players in our ranks, Barry Richards, Gordon Greenidge and Andy Roberts to name but three.

Last couple of overs RR picking up. But surely Middlesex have blown this now. They are going to have to score very quickly to be able to leave Yorkshire a session now....

Say 5 an over leaves 220 off 30 overs..... 6 an over is short of 250..... 32 overs in the evening session, so assume they only bat 18 overs ....

Likely target of 210-250 then off final session.

Once it became necessary for Yorkshire to reach that 350 target and did so slowly whilst losing wickets the options for Middlesex were limited to except to accept second place as consolation prize. The game did lose a fair number of overs from bad light and rain which may have been significant. As I type the teams are trying to make a deal or at least Gale is.

Good few days for Warwicks, winning the RL Cup then victory over Lancs to secure Div 1 status. Work needed over the winter, especially on their batting?
