The match situation is ok, it's the batting points that are elusive.

If Gubbins hadn't been dropped, Yorks would still need 350.

I know all the talk has been about Hameed this year, but im suprised that Gubbins hasn;t been mentioned for an england spot...averages 62 i believe this season...better than Hammed?

Hammed's was also a breakthrough...just seems odd that Hammed was constantly mentioned, when gubbins wasn't...and gubbins has arguably done better..

I've seen Gubbins mentioned by people like us. I think punters don't like bigging up a player on the back of some stats (I'm a bit wary but still plug away with Hildreth). Maybe Gubbins isn't England U19 and Haseeb is? That seems to count for a lot. There's only one winner in the best names competition. Though I guess Haseeb might mean something endearingly old fashioned in Urdu, as well.

It's a strange one - Yorkshire bowling into Day 2 meant the batsmen knew what the scenario is from the outset, mostly due to events at Taunton. Had Yorkshire bowled Middlesex out around Tea on Day 1, the batsmen may have gone into an mentality needing 400 runs within 110 overs in seamer friendly conditions at a time when Somerset were poised for maximum batting points.

Yorks 32 short. And then they have to win the game of course, on a pitch that's getting flatter.

So long as Yorkshire do indeed make 350, then my expectation is that Middlesex will make a right mess of trying to set Yorkshire something half decent (not helped by coming up against the best seam attack in the country) and ultimately Yorkshire will have next to nothing to knock off and will retain their crown come tea tomorrow.

But it would be interesting if the game does end up not going very far, in terms of whether both captains would get together and agree on something.

The bonus point system in county cricket is rubbish. Yorkshire lead by 65 but are 15 runs away from getting the same bonus points as Somerset..... who are currently setting 600 to win in their game and had over 200 runs advantage on the first innings.

They should just scrap bowling points. Bowling out a team for 135 is apparently the same as for 300...
