Looks like Middx have got away from Yorks. Bad day for the champions.

Can't fault Yorkshire's efforts with the ball, fielding on the other hand has been abysmal. Gubbins should have been caught twice (Rafiq at point, Ballance at slips). Lyth's low drop against Malan was catchable, but not clear cut with the slip cordon that bit closer due to little bounce on the wicket.

If anything, the Somerset game is making it harder for Yorkshire to retain the crown. 400 runs in 110 overs with 4 recognised batsman, including an out of form Gale and an inconsistent top 3 is a huge ask.

Warwickshire all out 219 with one bonus point, which in itself is a rare occurrence.
Work expands to fill the time available, so why do today what can be put off until tomorrow.

All of a sudden Somerset might struggle to make 350.

Just seen the Somerset score, complete collapse.

7 wickets for 20 runs after 2 wickets for 302.

All to do with planning permission, Middlesex can only switch on the floodlights for so many days a year and it's not that many compared to other counties. For example, Yorkshire can switch the floodlights at Headingley for a maximum of 20 days a year.

Actually it is about the same although Middlesex can only turn it on for 24 days or something like that and Middlesex/MCC have to get permission at the start of the season and only T20 games, england games and test can have the lights and some 50 over games.
Test take about 10 days.

Interesting poised, I'd back us on most days to get passed that, but we'll have to see.

Nothing with the new ball for Yorks so far. Could be a frustrating day.

Middx's tail has been their superpower this season though. Hopefully Yorks will be batting before tea.

Actually, given Yorks' batting, Middx have plenty already. Once the visiting openers are out, it's just a matter of chiselling out what they can by whatever means. Hard to believe that Ballance got another go with England. He's having a shocking season. Maybe today he'll show us why he's in the touring party.

If they get a bat.
