Middx intacto though. Looking like a win for the top two, unless Tahir causes some mayhem.

And the pitch at the Oval is as flat as a halibut that has been run over by a steamroller.

In his sixth game of the season, Azeem Rafiq has two wickets at over 100. So the seamers are going to have to do it for Yorks.

Four for Ball. Only 139 to get. Middx will win this by four wickets.

Yorkshire's squad for the second v third clash tomorrow at Headingley against Somerset.

Gary Ballance, Tim Bresnan, Jack Brooks, Andrew Gale ©, Andrew Hodd (w), Alex Lees, Jake Lehmann, Adam Lyth, Steven Patterson, Liam Plunkett, Adil Rashid, Ryan Sidebottom, David Willey.

Rashid is back. I'm expecting Plunkett and Willey to be left out.

Andy Hodd is doing a fine job as stand in for Bairstow, Yorks will have to keep him interested if they want to hang on to him. Being in the shadow of another keeper is not a great place to be. I would expect they will find a place for Plunkett, probably that of Patterson.
Work expands to fill the time available, so why do today what can be put off until tomorrow.

Bairstow will be lost as a Yorkshire player after this season, much as Joe Root has, so Hodd may continue as a first teamer. Alternatively, Yorks could look for a keeper who can bat in the top six (I think Steve Davies is available?). Tim would look a lot better coming in at seven.

Hodd has 309 runs this season, and one fifty, averaging under 30. Rated a good keeper though.
